Tips to Land Writing Gigs on Freelance Websites

  • best freelance writing sites in 2023

As a freelance writer, finding the right platform to showcase your skills and connect with potential clients can be a daunting task. With so many options available, it’s important to know which sites are worth your time and effort.

Whether you’re just starting out or looking to expand your client base, we’ve rounded up the 20 best freelance writing sites for serious writers. From job boards to content marketplaces, these platforms offer a range of opportunities for writers to find high-quality, paying gigs. So, grab your laptop and get ready to take your writing career to the next level!

Certain platforms will be easier than others to jump into and begin making money, as some are more competitive than others or have a more rigorous vetting process for freelancers. Here are some tips to help you land writing gigs as you get started:

  • Create a strong profile. Your profile is often the first thing potential clients will see, so make sure it showcases your skills and experience. Include a clear and concise bio, relevant writing samples, and any relevant certifications or education.
  • Be selective with the freelance jobs you apply for. It’s important to apply for gigs that align with your skills and interests. Don’t waste your time on low-paying or irrelevant jobs. Instead, focus on applying for gigs that you're qualified for and genuinely interested in.
  • Customize your proposals. Don't send the same generic proposal to every job. Take the time to read the job description and tailor your proposal to the specific project and client. Show that you’ve done your research and understand what the client needs.
  • Highlight your unique selling points. What sets you apart from other writers? Maybe you specialize in a specific niche, have extensive experience in a certain industry, or have won writing awards. Whatever it is, make sure to highlight it in your proposals and on your profile.
  • Follow up. Don't be afraid to follow up on proposals or applications. A polite email or message can show that you’re serious about the job and can help you stand out from other candidates.
  • Deliver quality work. Once you land a gig, make sure to deliver high-quality work that meets or exceeds the client’s expectations. This can lead to repeat business and positive reviews, which can help you land more gigs in the future.

By following these tips, you can increase your chances of landing high-quality writing gigs on the best freelance writing sites. Remember to stay patient and persistent, and don't be afraid to put yourself out there!

20 best freelance writing sites in 2023

It’s possible to create a full-time income with freelance writing if you’re dedicated to creating high-quality work and willing to put in some upfront work. Our advice is to get started with one or two platforms to feel out which ones will work best for you, and don’t get discouraged if any particular platform or project doesn’t work out.

Here are our picks for the best freelance writing sites in 2023:

Upwork freelance writing jobs

Upwork is a marketplace that connects freelancers with companies and individuals looking for freelance talent. From writing and translation to design and creative, there are many types of jobs available for hire. You simply bid on the jobs you’re interested in working on, complete with a proposal where you describe why you’re the best person for the job and set your desired rate. If you’re selected, you then complete the work according to the client’s specifications and get paid through the platform.

To get started on Upwork, create a profile where you highlight your skills, your portfolio of work, and your ideal pay rate. Search for jobs in the Talent Marketplace, submit proposals, get a contract on winning bids, and check off the steps to complete the work. Clients may choose to pay you for reaching certain milestones during the course of the project, or they pay you when the job is done. They can also submit feedback, which helps you secure future jobs and build lasting relationships with new clients. A word of advice as you get started: Get your feet wet with a few simple jobs where you earn positive feedback before demanding higher rates, as Upwork is a highly competitive platform with thousands of skilled writers and other professionals.

  • Pricing: It’s free to join Upwork, build a profile, search for work, and post your own projects. Upwork charges a service fee based on your earnings, with a sliding scale that rewards long-term client relationships. The Freelancer Plus upgrade gives you more advanced tools to market your services and submit attention-grabbing proposals.

2. Best Writing

Best Writing freelance writing jobs

A relatively new platform, Best Writing got its start in 2020 when two friends decided writers needed a better way to find great work. Subscribe to the Best Writing newsletter, and you’ll receive weekly emails packed with hand-picked writing opportunities. The site aggregates writing jobs from online job portals, social media, newsletters, and selected partners, serving up everything from remote freelance gigs to full-time positions.

Best Writing is also a talent marketplace; for a small fee, you can gain access to a daily newsletter with the latest writing jobs and create a public writer profile. If you’re looking to be more proactive and make sure you don’t miss out on an opportunity, the Writer Membership might be the way to go. Because Best Writing is a newer platform, there may be less competition, although that could change as the platform grows — so get in while the getting’s good.

  • Pricing: Free to subscribe to the weekly newsletter, browse jobs, and apply on external sites; Writer Membership is $9 per month or $90 annually.

3. Superpath Jobs

Superpath Jobs

Another larger platform with thousands of writers, Superpath Jobs is an online jobs aggregator that caters to content strategists, creators, editors, and freelance writers. Browse jobs by category, location, company, and more — and apply externally to any positions of interest.

While Superpath may look like just another job site, there’s more to it: Not only are you only seeing jobs in your desired field, but the platform also has a Slack community to which writers can apply to join. Once approved, you can connect with other like-minded creators, share tips and tricks, and support one another on your writing journeys. Additional tools like a blog, a podcast, and a regularly updated salary report keep you in the know.

  • Pricing: Free to create a profile and post your resume. You decide whether to make your profile visible to employers.

Draft freelance writing jobs

Draft offers clients quality content writers on demand; for you as a freelancer, it offers you unlimited work that matches your interests, availability, and skills. Once you’re approved to write for Draft, you can view available projects on your dashboard, claim anything you want to work on, complete the work, and upload it onto the project portal. Clients can then submit feedback or request revisions, as well as set people as preferred writers if they like their work (this is what you want, so you can get first dibs on projects).

To get started as a writer, you’ll need to apply on the Draft site and complete a test writing project. If you pass, you’ll have access to the project dashboard, where you can not only claim projects but also track any projects you’ve claimed and completed. Writers get paid weekly via direct deposit and can track their payments through the platform.

  • Pricing: Free to join as a writer once you’re approved; Draft charges a small payment processing fee that gets subtracted from your weekly payment.

5. ProBlogger

Weekly payouts make it easy to access your earnings. To get started, complete your author registration and activate your account; you will then need to submit a short writing sample and connect your payment method.

  • Pricing: Free to register

Contena freelance writing jobs

Contena is an invite-only online program and a suite of job-search tools aimed at helping budding writers land freelance writing and remote work. The site says that its self-paced program has helped its members earn millions from remote writing. Yes, it’s a membership, so the program isn’t free; pricing isn’t readily available on the site, but this review — based on the writer’s experience in trying out the onboarding process — states that membership costs $497 for one year or $997 for two years.

While there are many positive reviews of Contena, the same writer above states these reviews are driven by affiliate income. However, the site offers a 30-day guarantee that should put your mind at ease, and the online course could be worthwhile if you’re just getting started with freelance writing. Our best advice? Do some thorough vetting before shelling out any money, but don’t be afraid to invest in your education if the material is worthwhile.

  • Pricing: Reportedly $497 per year

You can also take quizzes to have skills badges added to your profile, helping you stand out from the crowd.

Having your resume ready to send can be helpful when you’re applying to multiple jobs at once; jobs marked as “EasyApply” let you apply directly on the platform. Be sure to build out your LinkedIn profile to highlight your achievements, request recommendations from people you know, and showcase your best professional self.

  • Pricing: Free; Premium membership starts at $29.99 per month, with access to more advanced career tools.

If you’re one among them, don’t worry, Upwork is one of the best freelance websites for writers. Not only for writers, it can also be used by designers, marketers and everyone else who are looking for freelance work.

Upwork

Upwork formerly Elance is a popular online freelance platform that’s used by millions of people worldwide.

How to get started as a freelancer on Upwork?

Step 1: Click here to sign up for Upwork as a freelancer for free.

Step 2: Start picking the topics that you’re interested in. But before that make sure to fill your profile with your name, description, experience, photo etc. This makes it easy for you to find clients quickly.

Step 3: Start earning money (ask your friends and family to hire you when you’re just starting out and ask them to give a positive feedback so you get better work in the long run).

If you’re someone who wants to start using Upwork as a freelance writer, here are some quick tips for you.

1. Always make sure to ensure that the clients’ payment methods are verified. You’ll see a “verified payment” tick for every client.

2. If you’re starting out, make sure to use Upwork’s desktop app and work diary that tracks your time and takes snapshots of your screen to avoid any conflict at payment stage. This is a must if you want to avoid headaches later.

How much does Upwork charge for freelancers?

Freelancers pay a service fee of 5% to 20% based on their lifetime billings with a specific client. Here’s the breakdown of how Upwork charges for those who are doing freelancing on their platform.

  • You pay 20% for the first $500 billed with the client across all contracts
  • 10% for total billings between $500.01 and $10,000
  • And when total billings with the client exceed $10,000, a 5% fee is charged

Yes, 20% is a lot of service fee but mind you, it eliminates a lot of competition by giving you a great edge of getting high paying clients.

Getting the first client on Upwork is a tough job, but once you get your first gig, the road onward will be straight and smooth. This resource will be a great help to land your first content writing freelance job on this platform

FAQs | Best Content Writing Websites

There are few sites like Upwork, Fiverr, CrowdContent, ContentWriters.com that are dedicated freelance sites for content writers.

Though this is the well-researched list of freelance content writing websites, for a beginner, I would highly recommend you to start with Fiverr.

For me, the best practice is to check out the top 10 links on Google and then come up with the best version of content covering all the aspects in the best way.

In most cases, you will be paid per word via a suitable payment channel like PayPal.

Though it all depends on your capabilities and the pace you can write at. Still, if you are a beginner you can earn around INR 9000 – 10000. And if you’re an experienced freelance writer you can earn from INR 20000 to 30000.

Most of the websites I mentioned above work in both ways. You can either sign up as a freelancer or employer. So simply create an account as an employer and start finding a content writer for you.

I am a newcomer to the content writing game. Came across your blog while looking for good sites to try out freelancing work. Thanks for your valuable insights to each site. I will be trying them soon. Cheers!

Hello, I am a content writer who opened my blogging career on freelancer.

Definitely, a thorough list of some of the best and most useful websites for freelancers.

Thanks Yatin Dhiman

I am a big fan of Upwork and found it very easy to manage and start making money from it. eastsidewriters.com is also a good site to look out for some content writing projects?

Thanks for sharing these great lists of freelance sites.

Which is your primary and favorite place to outsource content writing.

and How much it cost for 2000k words.

finally how you optimize it..

I started my blogging career as a content writer on freelancer.

Indeed, a well-researched list of some of the amazing websites that help freelancers to get work and paid well.

Thanks Amit Garg

Thank you, thank you so much. This is detailed blog – actually I was looking for this as I have started doing full time freelancing and it’s been so tedious and tempting altogether to search for everything related to content writing services in freelancing (remote). Recently, someone suggested me Upwork and Freelancer but that’s not it – I needed to find few more sites too – just to compare and know the difference between these all. Wow, article. Have been in my bookmark now. 🙂

These websites are extremely competitive and it would be difficult for writers in their initial phases to earn money consistently. A good place to start would be websites like

1) Content-Kart.com 2) Constant-content.com 3) godotmedia.com

Maybe you should add a section for websites that are not very competitive

Hi Shilpa, glad you added few websites to the list, I’ll definitely check them out and if they are really useful for our audience, I’ll consider adding them in the future. Again, thanks for listing out!

These are the top sites which are flooded by all kinds of freelancers from around the globe and their popularity means nothing if you can’t earn. I`d rather advice new low competitive freelancing platform for beginners. Beesy.pro and Craigslist are totally free, partimerz has a symbolic charge and all of them are good if you want to work, not only search for it.

Thanks for sharing these great list of freelance sites. I am a big fan of upwork and found it very easy to manage and start making money from it. Textbroker is also a good site to look out for some content writing projects.

Hi Mahendra, glad to know that you’re already using few of the sites listed above for freelancing work. Remember one thing while the above mentioned sites, just because a skill has a higher demand or pays well than the others doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best path to follow because there are so many people who are offering $5 services, so you need to really hone your skills to be able to find high paying clients.

Great websites for freelance work!

I like upwork and fiverr. I like all of them, to be honest. You can always find new clients anywhere.

The key is presenting yourself and your portfolio in a professional way. You also have to be quick witted and also work to become a smart marketer to sell your services.

Thanks for sharing this list man!

Hi Freddy, glad to see you around here, one thing I like about most freelancing sites mentioned above is that, they all provide you a ton of customers list that you can use to quickly make money by offering your services. Upwork is definitely a great source for freelancers to find great customers and yes as you said, you need to work smarter if you want to find high paying gigs. Thanks for stopping by.

Hello Anil, Thanks for sharing these great list of freelance sites. I am a big fan of upwork and found it very easy to manage and start making money from it. Textbroker is also a good site to look out for some content writing projects. Thanks for sharing these great tools.

Yes agree that Upwork is a top notch site for freelancers and way better than most of the other platforms such as Fiverr where there’s just too much noise. The good thing about using Upwork is that you can choose the Free or Pro Membership options, depending on how often you plan on using the website. Free is upto 60 “Connects”/month, currency you pay to submit proposals to potential clients. For $10, Pro is 70 “Connects” and you get a personalized url, as well as some average insight into how much people are offering to charge on each job, so you can use those plans smartly to make more money through upwork.

Great Post! Thank you for compiling this. You can add Text-Writers as good source of earning for writers. It is an online platform that bring freelancers writers and business under one roof.

I haven’t yet heard about and thank you for the suggestion, I’ll definitely have a look at it and if it sounds like a great deal for freelancers of all kinds, I’ll definitely include it to the list. Thanks for stopping by and let me know if you’ve any more suggestions.

I am a career coach. Recently I worked with a few clients who were looking for mid life career change. After six to eight month effort, they established themselves as a freelancer in content writing, drawing categories. I found Fiverr.com is the best way to establish as freelancers.

Hey Alta, Fiverr is a great place if you know how to approach clients with your gigs and if you’re just starting out, you can find thousands of customers who are interested in your services as Fiverr is one of the biggest online platforms where people find cheap services. That being said, it usually don’t provide you much profits when compared to other sites like UpWork. You can also check out the remaining site mentioned above for finding the freedom to work when you want, from where you want. All the best.

20 Best Freelance Writing Websites (For Employers and Writers)

Dianna Gunn

Looking for freelance writers to work on your blog? Interested in becoming a freelance writer yourself? Look no further than this list of the best freelance writing websites.

This list includes three main types of websites for freelance writers:

  • Content networks 🥅. These are sites that act like online agencies. Writers set up profiles and the networks recommend them to potential employers. These sites are often more friendly to new writers, since they typically only require a skills test, not previous experience.
  • Job boards 📋. Employers post jobs on these sites and writers can apply through them either by using online forms or through email. The jobs posted on these sites often require more experience than content networks.
  • Job marketplaces 👷‍♂️. These sites connect freelancers of all kinds with work, not just freelance writers. You can register an account, specify the type of work you do/that you’re looking for, and start applying for jobs. These sites typically don’t require any previous experience.

Note that many sites offer multiple ways for employers to connect with freelance writers. In these instances, I’ve categorized them based on what they do best.

Category #1: Content networks

Best freelance writing websites: Contena homepage.

Contena is a network that trains freelance writers to create a variety of content types, then connects them to high-quality remote writing jobs.

For freelance writers:

Anyone interested in Contena can sign up as a freelance writer by completing a 5-minute survey. Users can also pay for a premium account that connects them with a Contena coach.

For employers:

Posting a job on Contena only takes a few minutes, but will cost you $99.

2. Contently

Contently homepage.

Business owners must take a product tour of Contently and sign up for an account before they can use the platform. Companies will be provided with a quote for using the platform at the end of the product tour.

3. WriterAccess

WriterAccess homepage.

WriterAccess is a robust content platform that allows businesses to plan content, hire and manage freelance writers, and publish the content they create directly to most platforms.

WriterAccess requires potential freelance writers to submit some basic personal and professional information, including a resume. Most applicants are accepted within 24 hours.

WriterAccess offers three plans for employers , starting at $41/month. All plans include access to workflow automation tools, an AI-powered writer search, and the possibility to post unlimited projects.

Best freelance writing websites: iWriter homepage.

iWriter is a site that connects top-level freelance writers to thousands of high-quality projects each month.

Freelance writers must complete two short (200 words) writing tests and submit them to iWriter. Applicants will receive their results in 5-7 business days.

You must create an account with iWriter to hire writers on the platform. Once registered, you can post as many jobs as you want. The system also includes four pricing rates based on the quality of the writer you hire.

5. Textbroker

Textbroker homepage.

Textbroker is a site dedicated to connecting businesses with the best freelance writers the internet has to offer. This is one of the few sites on this list of best freelance websites that requires an actual writing test, ensuring the quality of everyone who works on the platform.

To become a freelancer on Textbroker, you’ll need to create an account, enter some basic information, and submit a brief writing sample.

Anyone can sign up for Textbroker as an employer and start posting jobs, no payment required.

Best freelance writing websites: Skyword homepage.

20 Examples of Great Content Writer Websites:

1. millie lapidario.

Millie Lapidario is a famous content writer who runs her job board as well. Although primarily a tech writer, she has written other types of content too. A collection of her past work is brilliantly displayed in her portfolio . She has chosen an attractive color combination of black and white for the theme, giving her site a nice retro look. She also has other writers under her employ to serve more clients simultaneously.

2. Francesca Nicasio

Featuring statistical figures that highlight the dramatic results of her work in the first half of the page, Francesca Nicasio has an extremely professional website. She mentions her expertise and later defines how clients can benefit by hiring her. Such strategies can help you win jobs instantly. She also prominently displays her email on her welcome banner, so you can see it as soon as you open it. Thus, clients find it easy to contact her.

3. Sally Bacchetta

Sally Bachhetta has a simple and decent-looking website. I think that’s a good initiative because many clients don’t enjoy getting into fancy details. Right at the start, she talks about her expertise, which is freelance content writing , instructional designing, and sales training. Her website has a nice flow of information. She first explains her expertise in content writing and then provides her bio. She also mentions her previous experience and articles in her portfolio.

4. Muriel Vega

Muriel Vega is a professional content writer and copywriter, and her skills are aptly highlighted in her unique portfolio. She let her creativity shine in her portfolio by using icons and animations. As soon as you open her website, you can see the niches she’s specialized in. By clicking on any icon, you get directed to her articles written in that niche. That’s a highly creative and professional way of showcasing your skills. By using the least words possible, you don’t take much of the readers’ time while browsing.

5. Helen Gebre

Helen Gebre uses a simple design on her website and introduces herself perfectly, with a short description. Her writing style and bio portray how much she loves writing and considers it an art. The other page displays her work, in which she included samples of past content she wrote. The next page is a short introduction about her, which is highly creative and fun to read. On the last page, she has a section where clients can reach her.

6. Kat Boogaard

7. emily thompson.

Emily Thompson has a simple and clean website, but with a creative flair to attract clients. She explains her track record and uses bullet points to do away with long and boring paragraphs. Then, she presents a clever but subtle argument that can make potential clients realize the advantages of hiring a professional writer . And as a coup de grâce, there’s a CTA button underneath. In the end, she shares her client’s reviews and mentions the brands she’s worked with.

8. Tyler Koenig

9. brittany berger.

Brittany Berger’s website is one of my favorites, as she uses a unique approach to convey her thoughts in the best way possible. She offers a quick solution to existing and potential clients, which is exactly what they are looking for. After all, clients want to see an immediate answer to their requirements. Her website has a nice color scheme and uses icons and animations to make it even more appealing.

10. Yolander Prinzel

11. michal eisikowitz.

Michal Eisikowitz has one of the best and most professional content writer’s websites I’ve seen so far. The way she addresses the problems on point and offers the best possible solution hooks you perfectly. She also uses clever and humorous images to make clients realize their dilemmas in producing powerful and timely content. The way she uses bullet points and tries to make a friendly relationship with the clients through her work is highly impressive. She also explained everything sequentially, which is great!

12. Sarah Asp Olson

13. sarah turner.

From the get-go of her website, Sarah tells her expertise, which is copywriting in the health industry . This tactic is great, as clients won’t have to scroll through the website to know her writing niche . You might think that this is self-limiting, but she is projecting herself as a consummate expert on the topic. However, unlike other writers, she shared her experience first and described herself at the end.

14. Catherine Conelly

15. ally denton.

Ally Denton demonstrates how you don’t need to be loquacious to say much about yourself and what you can offer. She only briefly talks about herself on the homepage and mentions the niches she loves, which is a great initiative. After all, a business should be able to communicate its products or services by using the fewest words possible. You can discern her professionalism just by looking at her homepage.

16. Jeremy Herriges

Being a sportswriter and journalist, Jeremy Herriges combines his passion with his profession. This is another content writer with tunnel vision. He specifically states his writing niche on his compelling website, which is the sport of boxing. He is a major contributor to various sports publications. His homepage features colorful graphic art and a brief introduction. Later, it talks about his previous work and contact details, which are a great sequence.

17. Rachel B. Levin

Rachel B. Levin has a fascinating website that blends her expertise with the theme. Right after landing on the homepage, the first lines clearly explain what she does. Later, you can see her published work, which she neatly organized according to niches. You can access each one by clicking on the respective thumbnail images. Her “about” section focuses more on her content writing career.

18. Marlen Komar

Marlen Komar’s website is an example of a creative and professional content writer’s website. While the top of the page proclaims she is a writer, the bio below details her expertise and the niches she loves to write in. As she is a lifestyle and beauty writer, most of her past work features the beauty industry and common issues that women face daily.

19. Amanda Loudin

20. chidinma nnamani.

As soon as clients visit your site, they should know what you offer. And that’s what Chidinma does perfectly. In the main lines, she talks about her favorite niches , and just below that, she mentions the type of content she prefers to write. Her website is well-organized and professional. She also shares screenshots of her best work and how she has improved the traffic to clients’ sites.

John Cena: There Isn't A Check Writer With Enough Money To Change My Mind When I Retire

John Cena is done when he's done.

John Cena is set to have his retirement tour in 2025 as he works dozens of dates from January to December. At the end of December, whenever Cena has his last match, that will be the last time he'll wrestle.

"There isn't a check writer with enough money to change my mind when I hang it up in December," Cena told Liam Crowley of ComicBook . "I don't want to continue for ego or financial gain. I built a relationship of trust and authenticity over the years with the WWE, and that's people who think I suck and people who believe in me, they know that I shoot them straight and I'm trustworthy. I mean what I say: when I'm done in December, I am done. It is the last time I will perform in a ring."

He continued, "I'll be a member of the WWE family as an ambassador and a grateful one. But you will see me wear this (points to suit), not the wristbands, the jorts, the ball cap. That, in December 2025, that goes away, and that's the reason why we're putting so much equity and emphasis on this farewell tour. It truly is the last time for generations for grandparents and parents and kids to get together in the same time. Grandparents could be like, 'I didn't know about wrestling and my son dragged me here.' That son now has a son and daughter of their own, and they like John Cena, and now their kid likes Cody Rhodes. I want to try to do something special where we can all get together one last time and, and go through 25 years worth of memories."

Cena has said that he hopes to wrestle in the UK during his retirement tour.

Cena is set to star in the new film "Jackpot," which streams on Amazon Prime video on August 15.

Free WordPress AI Writing Assistant By Jetpack

Jetpack’s free AI writing assistant for WordPress improves content conciseness and readability while maintaining authenticity

Jetpack by Automattic announces a free AI writing assistant for WordPress

Jetpack announced a free WordPress writing tool called Write Brief With AI that improves the clarity and conciseness of content. The AI writing assistant is based on an internal tool used at Automattic and is now available without limitations regardless of whether a user is subscribed to Jetpack AI Assistant or not.

Write Brief With AI Is Free

The new AI tool started as an internal writing tool used at Automattic, the company behind WordPress.com, Jetpack, WooCommerce, and other companies. They are now integrating as part of the Jetpack AI plugin. Although Jetpack AI is a premium plugin (with a limited free trial), the functionality and usage of Write Brief with AI is available to all users both free and paid.

What It Does

The new Jetpack AI writing tool does three important things that can improve engagement and the overall quality of the content.

  • It measures the readability of the text.
  • Flags long-winded sentences.
  • Highlights words that convey uncertainty.

Importance Of Readability

Readability and a direct writing style are important for clearly expressing the content’s topic, which can indirectly benefit SEO, conversions, and engagement. This is because clarity and conciseness make the topic more evident and easily understood by search algorithms.

Why Removing Uncertainty Is Important

Regarding flagging words that sound uncertain, that has the effect of encouraging the writer to consider revisions that make the content more definitive and confident.

Here are examples of how confident writing improves content:

This sentence expresses uncertainty:

I think we should consider expanding our marketing efforts.

This improved version of the same sentence is more confident:

We should expand our marketing efforts.

This sentence is unconfident:

Maybe we should review the budget before making a decision.

This sentence is direct and definitive:

We should review the budget before making a decision.

The above examples show how improving directness and making sentences more decisive removes a level of ambiguity and makes them more understandable.

Will that help a web page rank better? Communicating without ambiguity makes it easy for search-related algorithms to understand content which in turn makes it easier to rank for the respective topic.

Embedded Within The WordPress Editor

The editor is located within the WordPress editor. Blocks must be enabled because it won’t work within the Classic Editor. Additionally, the functionality is turned off by default and has to be activated by toggling on within the AI Assistant Settings sidebar.

Should You Try Write Brief With AI?

If your site is already using blocks then it may be convenient to give the new writing assistant a try. The tool is focused on improving content according to best practices but not actually doing the writing itself. That’s a good use of AI because it preserves the authenticity of human authored content .

Download Jetpack and activate the free trial of the AI Assistant. Write Brief With AI is switched off by default, so toggle it on in the AI Assistant settings.  While AI Assistant is limited in how many times it can be used, Write Brief With AI is in Beta and can be used without limitations.

10 expert-recommended online resume writing services to use in 2024.

A resume

In the mix of college assignments and perhaps your 9-to-5, piecing together an attractive resume for employers can be a difficult feat.

Not only is this one-pager the bread and butter of what will lead to a first-round interview (fingers crossed!), but it’s an excellent portrayal of your skillset, employment history and unique skills that help a company’s HR department gauge if you’re the right fit.

Let’s cut to the chase — more specifically, let’s answer the question, “ How can I make my application stand out? ” One of the most influential steps is, without a doubt, rendering your resume to tip-top shape. And fortunately, there are some of the best online resume services like TopResume and Resumble out there to help.

Best Overall: TopResume

Best budget: resume companion, best optimization for applicant tracking systems: resumeble.

  • Best Customizable : Brand Resumes
  • Best with Career Consulting: Top Stack Resumes
  • Best for Quick Hiring : ZipJob
  • Best One-on-One Collaboration : Upwork
  • Best for Cover Letters : ResumeSpice
  • Best Budget : Craft Resumes

Whether you’re a senior in college applying for your first full-time job or you’ve been in the biz for years and are looking to segue into a different role, we rounded up the top online resume writing services you can use to help get your application in tip-top shape. Plus, we’ve enlisted Shannon Conklin, director of career and leadership development at The College of New Jersey to help!

Hop to her picks below or check out our FAQ for more details on things to look for when picking the right resume builder for you.

TopResume

  • Packages with unlimited resume revisions
  • Free resume review
  • 60-day interview guarantee
  • Several customers who wrote reviews on Trustpilot mention having poor communication with their resume writers

TopResume is a beloved favorite — and for a good reason. It has four different packages depending on your career goals, some of which include unlimited revisions, a LinkedIn makeover, a cover letter and two interview prep sessions.

“TopResume continues to be a solid option,” Conklin shared. “It has strong descriptions, where the website and interface are easy to navigate to understand its process, its three packages, as well as testimonials.”

She also loves TopResume’s FAQ section, coupled with the various packages, that make its process clear and timeline. “There is also plenty of mention about AI and ATS technology,” she added. “If you need a resume quickly, one that accounts for technology, and a budget of only about $150, it looks like this service would be one to strongly consider.”

With TopResume, you’ll also get a 60-day interview guarantee. If you don’t get twice as many interviews, the platform will rewrite your resume for free. It’s pretty top tier, to say the least, and is a minimal investment for those hoping to find free resume-writing services.

Resume Companion

  • Self-directed service
  • Template-based
  • Must renew a subscription to edit resume in the future

“Resume Companion is a clean website with a clear message — build a resume quickly!” Conklin highlighted. “It offers templates, examples and advice on how to craft a resume, as well as a cover letter, as a self-directed service within about 15-minutes.”

What’s more, the service also makes it clear it offers a variety of templates based on industries and functions. “This can really help if you are trying to transition to a new field or your resume needs to be updated to reflect the latest in your industry,” she added.

With Resume Companion, you’ll be able to build your resume step by step, from selecting a professional template to answering a few simple questions to have your experience and skills added directly to your digital file. Namely, if you’re not much of a writer, you’ll appreciate its pre-written work experience bullet points to craft your resume in minutes and then apply away.

Not to mention, it’s only $8 a month, so if you want a one-and-done service, this one’s your best bet. Keep in mind that you will have to renew your subscription to edit in the future, but it’s a great budget-friendly option to pursue if you don’t want to be completely in the dark.

Resumeble

  • 4-day turnover on resume drafts
  • Three free revisions with standard resume package
  • Only the premium resume package includes a job guarantee

Resumeble is not only has a fun name, but it includes a resume and cover letter in its baseline package. If you’d like to upgrade, you can receive a LinkedIn write-up, a second resume version, thank you and follow-up notes and cold emails to recruiters.

“Have you applied to dozens of jobs, only to never get through?” Conklin questioned. “If this resonates because your resume is not optimized for ATS platforms, Resumeble might be the choice for you. Mention of ‘ATS,’ as well as their outcomes and ROI, are weaved throughout its site.”

Conklin told The Post that she’s seen many clients apply to dozens and dozens of companies, only to be vetted out due to ATS. “When that happens, I often advise networking to complement a revised, ATS-optimized resume.” she tipped off. “This brings me to one other noteworthy element to their various packages, they support your full professional profile; resume to LinkedIn to recruiter communication support.”

For those who want to spend less than $200 for online resume writing services, this all-in-one option is fairly priced, making it one of the best affordable resume writing services. If you’re only looking to refresh your LinkedIn, you’ll just pay a one-time $99 fee. For just your resume, it’s a one-time purchase of $129 for the service.

Best Customizable: BrandResumes

BrandResumes

  • Has a self pace job search course
  • Helpful step by step resume building guide
  • Some customers who reviewed the service on Trustpilot report time delays in receiving their resume

BrandResumes made the cut as one of our top choices for online resume services for a few reasons: it’s one of the platforms best for ATS keyword optimization and formatting for interviews, LinkedIn branding and a customizable interface. If you buy the deluxe package, you’ll have your resume distributed across the 60 top job boards (including industry-specific ones), so you’ll spend less time applying.

“Learning the fundamentals of resume writing is a skill that will carry you throughout your career, and BrandResumes offers courses and resources to accomplish just that,” Conklin highlighted. “Once you understand how to format a strong bullet point, or the style you find reflects your story and values, you can start crafting various resumes to appeal to different audiences and fields.”

BrandResumes also offers resources to launch your own resume writing business — a tool that can be valuable for career experts seeking professional resume writing services. “If you’re seeking to dig into how to revamp your resume, or you find yourself (like many in HR or career services) consistently asked to help a friend or family member with their materials, this service will align with your goals,” she added.

Best with Career Consulting: TopStack Resume

TopStack Resume

  • Pay only after you’re satisfied with the resume
  • According to TopStack Resume’s site, resume complete takes up to 2 weeks

TopStack Resume is a force to be reckoned with in the career development sphere. Notably, it’s one of the only services that provides career consulting. So, in addition to resume and cover letter formatting, you have the option to partake in one-on-one sessions with a career advisor.

“Five steps is all you need to follow for your resume review by TopStack,” Conklin put it simply. “The simplicity of this service and the range of offerings (from a resume for $139 to career consulting for its Premium Package ) can be valuable for any job seeker or career explorer.”

Moreover, if you find yourself in need of more career support, maybe you’re changing fields or returning to work after time off, this is a strong contender. “Be mindful of your budget and timeline, so you take full advantage of a career consultant; a solid service should focus on the process, as much as a strong career outcome,” she added.

Plus, TopStack Resume is unique in that it has a team of well-qualified writers to ensure your one-pager is the best it can be. At a fair price point, you can always upgrade to add on more benefits in the future.

Best for Quick Hiring: ZipJob

ZipJob

  • Fairly priced for the quality and swiftness of deliverables
  • Optimizes for ATS so you’ll have better odds of visibility before your resume lands in human hands
  • May be more difficult to ask for revisions if need be, due to the service’s robust turnaround time and automation

While no resume writing service can guarantee you landing your dream job, ZipJob has a unique offering in one of its packages that makes it a standout from the rest.

Ideal for candidates who are rapidly seeking their next role in a flash, ZipJob combines expert resume writers with the exact same tech employers to optimize your one-pager. The kicker? Its most popular plan, Fast Track, includes a professionally written resume, ATS optimization and direct writer messaging — but that’s not all.

Impressively, the Fast Track package for $189 also includes a cover letter and a 60-day interview guarantee. That’s how confident ZipJob is that you’ll get hired, and get hired quickly.

For $299, its Premium package includes a LinkedIn profile update to help maximize your chances and expedited delivery for super speed. If you want swiftness but don’t wish to compromise the quality of your application, you won’t have to worry with ZipJob.

Best One-on-One Collaboration: Upwork

Upwork

  • Several projects to choose from with unique writing strengths you may desire
  • Typically budget-friendly
  • Some options will have your resume written in only one business day
  • Price points vary and quality of work varies depending on which project provider you select, so take caution and read reviews before working with a given person

Individual-driven platforms like Upwork allow you to shop around for a resume writing service that matches your specific needs and budget. Similar to platforms like Skillshare where talented, qualified creators host a course offering or a service, Upwork allows you to select from a variety of different projects where you’ll have one-on-one attention. Consider it akin to being matched with an online counselor.

Generally budget-friendly, most of Upwork’s providers only take one business day to deliver. The majority of providers also have thousands of positive, near-five-star reviews, so it’s surely a service to consider.

The one downside to Upwork is that quality of work may differ slightly, though that’s a given with its platform structure. This differs from some other services like TopResume where the company at large has its own writing structure, so it’s just something to take note of. However, for its affordability and speed, it’s a great dip into the pool of resume writing and related services, without spending more on a professional-grade platform.

Best for Cover Letters: ResumeSpice

ResumeSpice

  • The baseline package offers a lot more than competitors, including phone consult, optimized draft and two edits
  • Cover and thank-you letters are added to packages at an additional charge

ResumeSpice is ready to add that much-needed spice to your resume. It doesn’t just provide three different package options, but it specifically tells you which one would work best for you. For example, if you have no more than two years in the workforce, you should select its baseline package ($449). This package includes a phone consultation, an eye-catching resume format, keyword optimization, a personalized draft, two rounds of revisions based on your feedback and finalized versions in both Microsoft Word and PDF formats.

“Solid service is evident across ResumeSpice, and its focus on Executive Resume stands out from others,” Conklin pinpointed. “If you find yourself wanting to get to that next level in your career, you really do need to consider an executive coach with an eye towards that goal for your materials.”

You might, for example, realize you have decades of experience and are unsure where to start to consolidate — Conklin offered. “This is one of the most frequent concerns when making this transition, and a third party like ResumeSpice can be an invaluable resource and sounding board,” she added. “Finally, its site is clear in terms of turnaround, which shows they value your time and manage expectations — a positive sign on what you can expect service-wise.”

ResumeSpice offers other à la carte services, too, including cover letter help, LinkedIn profile revamping, interview preparation and career coaching.

Best Budget: Craft Resumes

Craft Resumes

  • Unlimited revisions
  • 5 day delivery
  • Some reviewers mention time delays

Craft Resumes has an engaging, user-friendly interface that makes resume-building a fun, less stressful process. With ATS keyword optimization and a dedicated writer on your resume, rest assured that it will be in a healthy state to pass along to recruiters and job posters.

“Craft Resumes cleary focus on the ‘craft’ and design of writing resumes, where a distinguishing factor that caught my eye is their unlimited evaluation ‘at any reason’ for four days,” Conklin said, recommending the service. “This is valuable for job or graduate school seekers and career explorers, as you’ll likely have questions once you find an opportunity of interest.”

Similar to other services here, there is a one-on-one aspect that can be quite valuable, especially if you have the time. “There are also a variety of services and prices, not just resume writing,” she noted. “This is helpful for you budget, and evolving needs. Often times once you get a resume underway you start to realize that you’ll want other materials to be updated and aligned with your personal brand.”

For its most popular package, The Basic, you’ll have access to a single writer and unlimited revisions (which is a score compared to some other services on this list), strong and optimized words, unique formatting and a cover letter to increase your chances of landing an interview. However, Craft Resumes has other great packages worth exploring.

Best Resume Writing: Let’s Eat, Grandma Resume Service

Let's Eat, Grandma Resume Service

  • Consultation included with every package
  • Executive Concierge Service that includes 10 days of unlimited revisions
  • Quality writers and customer service, based off reviews
  • No academic CVs or federal resumes

Humorous name aside, resume service Let’s Eat, Grandma has a laser focus on punctuation (as you can tell because nobody intends to write that they’d like to eat their grandmother on a professional document) — as well as resume formatting. What’s great about this platform, specifically, is its vast packages, ranging from drafting your resume to offering cover letters and networking services to help boost your career trajectory.

“Let’s Eat, Grandma hones in immediately on its ‘custom-tailored’ approach,” Conklin said. “While every resume review should be tailored to account for your story (as mentioned above), it’s clear this is a value of this service. Client outcomes are also front and center, where a mix of employers and schools are listed; this is notable if continuing education is a goal of yours.”

With four packages available, and FAQs on the homepage highlighting its range (i.e. academic, federal government and more), Conklin appreciates how it’s clear that this service is distinguishing itself from others, especially given the range of specialty materials they can help you create.

What’s more, you’ll be assisted by a team of highly skilled writers who create targeted documents to help boost your chances of getting an interview. They’ll also speak to your unique strengths — and, therefore, amplify them on your resume — to tie your entire professional portfolio of experience together. They also have a package tailored for executives, making the platform a solid option for those needing executive resume writing services.

Which resume service is best?

The golden question, right? This depends mostly on your career goals. A range of services are available, and many are now even offered through LinkedIn.

“When considering a resume service, it is important to consider the extent of guidance you are seeking,” Conklin, who has 15 years of experience in higher education — told The Post.

“Are you overhauling your resume? Are you transitioning industries and need to consider a different format or approach? What are your financial resources to pay for one, or should you explore services offered from your alma mater or current institution if you are a current or graduate of higher education?,” she questioned.

You’ll also want to consider the resume services’ reputation, Conklin suggested: Are there reviews or endorsements of a service, especially if you are paying for one? What is the background, and is the resume service aligned with your industry of interest?

Is it worth paying for a resume service?

“It depends on the service and one’s circumstances as to whether it is ‘worth’ paying for the service,” Conklin said. “There are very reputable services out there, especially for more experienced career seekers. If you’re transitioning to a new field, or you are seeking to move to a senior or executive level, it could definitely be worth the cost.”

As a preliminary step, Conklin advised to really make sure you are an informed consumer when considering a resume service, and if you should pay or if you have a network or connections you can leverage for advice first.

How much does it cost to have someone write your resume?

“When an individual pays for a resume service, there may be a flat rate, or it is calculated on an hourly rate and requires at least two sessions,” Conklin explained. “For example, it could cost $150 for a single session.”

However, there are resume services that can significantly exceed that rate and are part of a package that might include a quick return and other support, from LinkedIn to interview coaching, that is over $600, she highlights.

What to include on your resume, according to an expert

“Your story is the focus of your resume, and it is critical to be honest and reflect on how you want to tell that, ultimately,” Conklin noted. “The order also depends on the stage of your career (early, mid, senior, executive) and the industry you are seeking.”

In academia, for example, you’ll see a curriculum vitae (CV) that is pages long to reflect one’s research, publications, and roles held. In financial services, you would have a one-page resume until you have significant work experience. Or, in the creative fields, you may have a one-page resume and then an online portfolio or website that exhibits your work to complement your resume, she explains.

“No matter the field you are pursuing, you always want to make sure you list your experiences in reverse chronological order, you include your education/training, think of the keywords and skills (and make sure those are prominently displayed and included), and also think of what is most relevant,” she listed. “The most relevant should be at the top.”

It is also key to consider Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), automated review systems that scan resumes as part of an organization’s vetting process. “The format could align or cause issues with an ATS system,” Conklin added. “This is why it’s important to do your research, leverage any connections you have to gain insights into a field and their preferred format and get advice on keywords, skills and experiences to include.”

“If you do your homework, you should find clues to answer the questions above and guide your resume writing approach,” Conklin shared.

How we chose resume services

At Post Wanted, here’s what we keep in mind when researching and hand-selecting resume services:

  • Customization : The best online resume services offer tailored resumes with personalized resume writing, in contrast to generic templates you can find for free.
  • Consultation : Some services offer a one-on-one consultation with your writer so they can scope out your specific attributes, career highlights and other aspects to your curriculum vitae you want to spotlight.
  • Comprehensive Packages : In addition to resumes, some services offer cover letters, LinkedIn profile optimization and career coaching. To some, this is worth the investment, though it may come with a higher price tag.
  • ATS Optimization : A great benefit to online resume services is the focus on Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS), as human recruiters typically use this software use these screening systems before it lands in their hands.
  • Turnaround Time : For some, there’s no time to be wasted when it comes to hunting for a new job. Looking at flexibility and speed is important; some services offer rush options for individuals who need a complete and optimized resume quickly.

Etsy Promised To End Sales Of Porn And Sex Toys. It's Not Going Well.

An Etsy marketplace is set up in Times Square outside the NASDAQ to commemorate the Etsy initial public offering which debuted to the public on Thursday, April 16, 2015.

On July 29, Etsy strengthened its ban of pornography and prohibited the sale of sex toys on its site, imposing what it described as “stricter criteria” on mature content. Two weeks later, the artisanal retail site still hosts thousands of listings violating that criteria.

While searches for “porn” and “pornography” do not return any results, searches for the most obvious of slang terms and sex toys return plenty. Among them:

  • A “Natural Crystal Large Curved Wand Dildo” and a “G Spot waterproof vibrator”;
  • A trucker hat with the phrase “Daddy’s Slut” on it, a phrase explicitly banned in Etsy’s new policy, which does not allow items “bearing sexual language or slogans that contain references to familial relationships”;
  • A “Big Dick Spell,” which promises a “boost in confidence and satisfaction during intimate moments” and also violates Etsy’s 2015 ban on “metaphysical services, including spells, curses, and other types of witchcraft.”

While Etsy defines pornography broadly as any that “explicitly describe or display[s] sex acts,” its policy specifically bans among other items “[m]aterials produced by pornographic publishers (e.g. Playboy, Brazzers). This includes vintage adult magazines and films.” But a search for “Playboy” returned more than 1,000 results, including a seller with Playboy in their handle, “PlayboyMagazineFinds.” Searches for Brazzers, another porn brand named and explicitly banned in the company’s policy, returned items featuring topless images of a porn star.

Lily Glass, a spokesperson for Etsy, did not answer questions about why the company continues to host so many obviously violative listings. She said Etsy has removed “thousands” of accounts since July 29 and uses “automated controls combined with human reviews” to enforce its policies.

And it does appear to have done that. One longtime vendor of adult toys was forced to end sales immediately after receiving an automated enforcement message from the company.

“My wife and I were heartbroken [over Etsy’s decision],” Luka, the owner of a small adult-themed business, told Forbes . “Obviously, the loss of that income was significant for our small business. Since a good 80% of sales from our own brand … came from Etsy, this meant we wouldn't be able to continue creating.”

Got a tip about Etsy? Do you know why it has failed to enforce its own new policy on adult content? Reach Cyrus Farivar via text / Signal / WhatsApp at +1-341-758-0888 or email [email protected] .

Historically, Etsy has struggled to enforce its policies on pornography in general.

Last December a Forbes investigation found the retailer hosting a bevy of deepfaked nude images of some 55 well known celebrities, including Olivia Munn and Jenna Ortega. Etsy, which has amassed a market cap of nearly $10 billion facilitating the sale of handicrafts, removed those items when Forbes flagged them. But it declined to explain why there are so many artificial pornographic images on its site. Several months later, it continues to host thousands of AI pornographic images. When searching for “ai girl,” its own algorithm suggests searches for more specific variations, like “ai girl hot,” among other more salacious options.

“Why they haven't [blocked numerous sex-related words] makes no sense to me. It’s the lowest of the low-hanging fruit.” Jennifer King, Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence

That Etsy is well aware of its porn problem, has publicly announced plans to address it and yet is still flooded with porn has left some observers puzzled. It’s unclear why the company would clearly moderate listings with the words “porn” or “pornography” in them, but greenlight porn and other forbidden items touted with conventional slang or anatomical specificity. If porn is banned on Etsy, shouldn’t items promoted with words like “tits” or “dick” be moderated more heavily, or even outright blocked?

“Why they haven't done that makes no sense to me,” said Jennifer King, a content moderation expert and a Privacy and Data Policy Fellow at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence . “It’s the lowest of the low-hanging fruit.”

Etsy’s new porn policy comes as Pornhub, the nation’s most popular porn site, has now blocked access from 19 U.S. states including Texas and North Carolina that have passed new age verification laws in order to access online pornography. Pornhub’s sister sites, including Brazzers, which share the same parent company, Ethical Capital Partners, have also blocked users from those 19 states.

Similarly, the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), which is making its way through Washington, would require platforms like Etsy to prevent users under 18 from seeing certain content that the government deems harmful. That could conceivably include pornography, although the bill does not specifically mention adult content.

KOSA, which critics worry might be overbroad and violate the First Amendment, passed the Senate in a near-unanimous vote last month but has yet to be introduced in the House of Representatives. The lower Congressional chamber remains in summer recess until September 9. Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, has said she supports KOSA, while Republican presidential candidate and former president Donald Trump has not released a position on the bill.

NetChoice, a tech lobbying group of which Etsy is a part, has come out against KOSA , saying that it is an “unconstitutional law [that] will protect no one.”

The move to ban pornography may also be part of broader attempts to clean up its image. Beyond its AI porn problem, the Brooklyn-based firm has been dealing with a slew of other types of AI-generated content , like bizarre coloring books and plethora of cheap coffee mugs with quippy sayings. Last month, the company hired a chief brand officer, and put out a new video advertisement emphasizing its commitment to “keep commerce human.” In its second quarter earnings, Etsy’s profit dropped 14% year over year to $53 million.
