How to Make a Wedding Slideshow in 6 Steps

By wedding spot.

Wedding slideshows are an engaging and entertaining way to tell your story as a couple and give guests a fun way to connect with you and each other. But it can be tough to know what images to include, what software to use, and how to put it all together. That’s where this guide on how to make a wedding slideshow comes in.

Below, we cover everything you need to know to create a wedding slideshow in just a few simple steps. We also provide ways to make your wedding slideshow unique and give a few real-life examples that we hope you can look to for inspiration.

How to make a wedding slideshow in 6 simple steps:

1. pick the tools and software you want to use..

There are lots of great tools for creating and sharing your slideshow, including:

Smilebox offers professionally-designed templates to make your wedding slideshow look beautiful and stand out. It has an easy drag and drop interface, with the ability to caption your photos, add music, and share via social media.

Animotica is available for Windows 10 users and features both pictures and video clips. You can also add photo backgrounds, text overlays, and stickers to your slideshow.

Animoto is a free online video maker with simple drag and drop tools. While they don’t focus on weddings specifically, they have a number of beautiful wedding templates to create your slideshow.

Adobe Spark is Adobe’s free tool for creating photo slideshows. The templates and graphic elements are all professionally designed, although the focus seems to be more on business-oriented slideshows rather than weddings.

Keynote and Powerpoint , which are likely already on your computer, are free and easy options that you probably already know how to use. Stay away from business-oriented layouts on these tools so that your slideshow doesn’t end up looking like a work presentation.

If you don’t want to go the DIY route, you can ask your photographer, videographer, or tech-savvy friend to create your wedding slideshow for you. You’ll still have to choose your photos and video clips, but the slideshow will look polished and professional.

2. Choose a theme.

No two wedding slideshows are the same because every couple is different. But that doesn’t mean you want to simply throw a few photos and songs together and call it a day. A wedding slideshow’s theme can make all the difference. You can, of course, make it match your wedding theme ( Star Wars-inspired slideshow, anyone?!). But it doesn’t have to stop there. Study up on the different types of slideshows and templates to find one that will be able to fully capture the story that you and your partner are trying to tell.

3. Determine how long you want the slideshow to be.

In order to keep your guests engaged and interested in your slideshow, we recommend making it around 5-10 minutes long. This equates to between 60 and 120 photos. If you choose to include video clips, make sure they’re on the shorter side in order to keep the momentum of the slideshow going.

4. Pick your photos and videos.

The images you include in your slideshow should help to tell the story of your time as a couple. They should be high quality and high resolution so that they show up well and can be seen from far away.

Try to choose images that show you in different phases of your life, such as your childhoods, single life, and life as a couple. Make sure to include key milestones if you have pictures or videos of them, such as your first date, anniversaries, and the proposal.

While the slideshow is of course about you, you don’t want 100% of the pictures to be of you by yourselves. Your close friends and family may be looking out for images and videos of themselves with you, so consider including those as well. It’s a nice way to show how important these people are to you, and makes the slideshow more interesting.

Remember: Everyone at your wedding will see the pictures and videos you choose, so consider withholding ones that guests may view as inappropriate.

5. Pick your music.

You don’t have to include music, but it can make your slideshow more engaging as you’re presenting it to your guests. If you’ll just be playing the slideshow in the background, you can decide whether to include music based on the location that it will be playing and whether your guests will be able to hear it.

Try to choose music that is significant to you as a couple. Do you have a favorite song that you always dance to? What about a song that played on your first date? These are great choices since they’re special and unique to you. You can also choose from some of the most popular wedding slideshow songs or fun wedding songs in general, which will work well with the images typically found in wedding slideshows.

Keep the tone of your slideshow in mind as you choose your music. A bright, fun slideshow with a lot of humor and pictures with friends pairs well with happy, upbeat music. If, on the other hand, you’re focusing mostly on the romance between the two of you, then slower and more romantic songs might make sense. You can keep the energy of the slideshow up by using just a portion of each song, such as the chorus. This also lets you choose more songs.

6. Determine when, and how, you want to show your slideshow.

You have a few options for when to show your slideshow. Many couples set aside time during the rehearsal dinner or reception for guests to watch the slideshow. Others choose to have the slideshow playing in the background during the rehearsal dinner, cocktail hour, or reception so that guests can watch it as they please.

Having a set time to show the slideshow gives you a chance to connect with your guests and have a shared experience and means that everyone definitely gets a chance to see it. But if you worry about boring your guests, or don’t have time in your wedding schedule for watching the slideshow, then playing it in the background is a good choice.

Put your DJ or a tech-savvy member of the wedding party in charge of the slideshow on the big day so that you don’t have to worry about it. That way you’ll know that everything will go smoothly and any technical problems will be handled.

How to make a wedding slideshow unique:

Now that you know how to make a wedding slideshow, it’s time to learn how to make one that’s unique and memorable. With a few creative ideas, your wedding slideshow can be engaging and fun for your guests and show off your unique story as a couple. Here are some of our favorite ideas from across the web:

Interview your friends and family about yourselves and your story as a couple.

Record words of marriage advice from people that you look up to.

Create a documentary-style slideshow covering the wedding planning process.

Include video clips from your childhood.

Show video of milestones like your first date, anniversaries, or the proposal.

Record a choreographed dance performed by the wedding party.

Create a parody of a film you enjoy.

Have a friend or family member narrate in a voiceover as if telling a fairytale.

Have a friend or family member read a script live during the wedding slideshow.

Explore 3 examples of wedding slideshows for inspiration:

This slideshow uses professional photos in a variety of settings to show off the energy and exuberance of the happy couple. By using only professional photos, Joyce and Kevin keep the slideshow looking smooth and polished. Their music is happy and laid-back and doesn’t overpower the video.

Jonathan and JoEllen’s slideshow does a great job of knitting together their photos and memories into a cohesive story. Their template and animations are simple and unobtrusive, and give the slideshow an elegant feel. By starting with each of their photos separately as babies and then transitioning to photos together, we really get a feel for their memories as individuals as well as their time together.

Kenneth and Ivanna created a truly unique slideshow that exemplifies their personalities. They made a stop motion video of their photos moving across a table to create a captivating and engaging experience for their guests. If you can make your video as fun for the guests as it is for you, you’re on the right track!

Now you know how to make a wedding slideshow!

How to Make a Perfect Wedding Slideshow: Step by Step Guide

How to Make a Perfect Wedding Slideshow: Step by Step Guide

Each day comes with its own magical moments, moments that we’d want to relive for a long time. While there are memories we’d want to hold for years, there are those we’d love to preserve forever. One of such memories comes on our wedding day.

Imagine being able to look at your best moments again and again with just a click of the play button. This is possible, thanks to slideshows!

Slideshows are not just a great way of preserving and reliving our best memories, but also a fun way of spicing up events. No wonder they have become increasingly popular, especially at weddings!

You’re probably here because eager to learn how to create wedding slideshows.

Let’s begin by telling you that, owing to the existence of great editing software applications like Animotica , you can make a perfect slideshow without breaking a sweat.

In this article, we will be showing you exactly how you can do just that.

Top Wedding Slideshow Ideas

Before you get down to the business of making your slideshows, it is always smart to have your ideas in place.

Though our average users spend around 13 minutes to make a masterpiece , having your concept beforehand will make things a lot faster when you start the actual creation of the masterpiece.

If you’ve been turning your brain inside out in search of wedding slideshow ideas, this section is designed to help you.

The great thing about using Animotica for making slideshows is that it allows you to use both pictures and video clips as well. However, it is currently available only for Windows 10. If you’re using Mac , or other versions of Windows , there are other suitable slideshow makers for them.

Here are some awesome wedding slideshow ideas you can use!

The Build-Up Concept

I call it the ‘build-up concept’ because it’s all about the journey. It’s all about how and where it all started and how the road led to this point.

You can make a slideshow running from the days before you both met each other, down to the days of your relationship, sliding through each memorable moment until the day of your wedding.

All you need for this are a bunch of pictures—or even short video clips—of yourselves when you were single, when you were dating, and when you got married. You can go all the way back to when you were both kids!

This is an excellent way of preserving all the moments you’ve both had, and the coolest part is that you can always update the slide with new pictures to celebrate your anniversaries along the line!

Here’s a cool example!

Interview Friends and Family

This is a great concept for making your wedding slideshows as well. You can just make short, separate clips of friends and family members having a short interview session on your wedding day. You do not have to be the one to do the recording. You can have someone do that for you instead.

The interviewees can just say their best wishes for you, or they can answer a few rapid-fire questions about random things that relate to your marriage. For example, let’s just say your name is Jane, and your future husband’s name is John. A fun rapid-fire question could be: “Who do you think Jane and John’s first child would look like?” Some would say, “Jane.” Some would say, “John.” But only time will tell who ends up being correct!

If you’d like someone to interview you and your spouse, that would be great as well!

Compile these short clips and work them into an impressive slideshow.

You can also add screenshots of social media posts from your loved ones as well just to spice things up.

Also, it is a great choice to combine this with the first idea to create a richer, more enthralling masterpiece.

Here’s a nice example!

Just Focus on the Event

This is pretty basic, but it makes more sense when you don’t have any old pictures or clips good enough for this purpose. It is rare, but these situations can’t be ignored. Perhaps you just want to make a slideshow that focuses strictly on your wedding day.

In this case, you must have gotten a considerable amount of awesome pictures from the event.

Making a slideshow specifically about your wedding is an excellent idea because it allows you to focus on that specific moment, relishing it for what it actually means to you.

A great example can be find here:

How to Make the Perfect Wedding Slideshow

Having gotten your idea already in place, it is now time to proceed with creating your slideshow. But is having a superb concept in mind good enough to help you create a masterpiece? Not quite. There are a few other things you need to know before you proceed.

We discuss them below.

What type of music should you use for your wedding slideshow?

A wedding is not like every other event. Thus, a wedding slideshow should be made with elements that actually fit the context. One of the elements you should pay attention to is the music.

Even if you love a song, it may not be the best fit for your wedding slideshow. You have to consider its lyrics as well as its rhythm. For example, you can’t use a trap song about drugs to make a wedding slideshow!

There are several suitable wedding songs you can use as your background music.

How long should a Slideshow Last?

As a general rule of thumb, slideshows for weddings should not be more than ten minutes . This is especially important when you’re presenting these slideshows to an audience at your wedding. Keeping it at this range will ensure that your audience does not get bored.

12 Simple Steps to Create Your Wedding Slideshow

Now that you’re fully prepared, it’s time to create your masterpiece!

We’ll demonstrate how to create a video slideshow of your wedding photos similar to the example below in less than 15 minutes using Animotica.

All images used belong to Lưu Đức Anh .

Let’s get cracking!

1. Open Animotica and click “Slideshow”

This is obviously the first step. Clicking on “Slideshow” will lead you to a window where you can upload your photos.

create video slideshow

Just click on “Slideshow,” and you’re ready to go.

2. Add Photo

Click on the “Add Photo” button to navigate to your storage area. Ensure you already have your pictures stored at a particular storage location. Select the images you’d like to include in the slideshow and hit “Open.” This returns you to your “Add Photo” window, and you should see your selected pictures now included. Set how long you want each image to last before it slides by adjusting the photo duration setting. You can set a custom time by editing the number in the box under the ring. You may also choose to leave it at the default settings. Once you’re done, hit “Next” for the next phase.

3. Add Music

This is also pretty straightforward. Click on the “Add Music” button to fetch your already downloaded background music. Animotica also comes with some great musical clips you can choose from! Once you’re done picking your music, hit “Next.”

4. Set your Aspect Ratio

This window allows you to define your slideshow based on the platform you’re planning to upload it to.

There are several options ranging from YouTube to Classic TV, and you can select your choice by just clicking on it. It’s usually best to leave it at its default setting. Once you’ve chosen your aspect ratio, hit “Next.”

5. Set a Background and Photo Fill

Animotica provides a bunch of great options for your slideshow’s background. These options are provided in the categories of “Blur Background” and “Color Background.” Also, you can set how the pictures are shown on your screen by setting the “Photo Fill.” However, it’s usually advisable to leave it at “Fit.”

Once you’ve made your selection, hit “Next.”

6. Transitions

This window packs several impressive transition effects for your pictures to move from slide to slide in a fun way. Observe the previews and select which appeals to you. You can also set the duration of the transition by moving the ring along the horizontal line.

This is the last step in creating a basic slideshow, and hitting the “Next” button will take you to a preview page where you’ll see what you have accomplished. While your slideshow is ready at this stage, there are a few other things you can do to make it a lot more colorful.

7. Adding Videos

If you have a short video clip you’d like to include, it’s just as easy as adding a photo! Simply click on the “Add” button on the foot of the window to reveal a list of options. Select “Add Video or Photo Clips,” and you’re good to go. Once you’ve successfully added the video, hold and drag it to your desired position.

8. Color Clips

Color Clips allow you to insert a colored page into the slide show. You can use this as a background for some texts, emoji, or anything you feel like adding. To add a color clip, click on the “Add” button. Select “Add Color Clip.”

wedding presentation photo

On the new window, click on the color to reveal a grid of several colors you can choose from. You can also set the opacity if you like. When you’re done, click on the back button.

wedding presentation photo

9. Adding text, photo, video, stickers and GIFs to your video slideshow

This option allows you to insert an element over an existing element within your slideshow. To insert a text, first, make sure the clip you want to overlay is activated by clicking on “+” and chose the right overlay option from the “Overlay” menu. You can now use the “Add” button. Select “Add Text” and type your message. Once you’re done, hit the “x” on the top right corner of your screen.

Other overlays you may want to experiment with include stickers, videos, photos, and GIPHYs. While working with stickers, you can take advantage of Animotica’s ‘Romance Style’ stickers category!

Not good enough? You can also animate your overlays using “Motion”. Learn how to do it.

10. Enhancements

There are several enhancement features included in Animotica, which you can use to add an extra shine to your pictures. You can have access to them by simply clicking on the picture you want to edit. Once you do, you’ll see a list of options you can experiment with.

wedding presentation photo

11. Audio Fade in and Fade Out

This feature helps to make your music flow perfectly with your slides. In situations where you have a slide of 3 minutes and music of 5 minutes, you’ll need to use the fade features, so the music does not appear to be breaking off suddenly.

     To use this feature:

  • Click on “Audio.”
  • In the new window, click on the music you’ve already added, it’s displayed as a bold horizontal orange bar with the music title on it.

wedding presentation photo

  • Click on the horizontal bar. This reveal a few options to let you add your settings.
  • Click on “Volume.”
  • In the next window, you’ll find the “Audio Fade In” and “Audio Fade Out.” Set the duration according to your choice, then hit back.

wedding presentation photo

It is crucial to trim your audio first, to align it with the length of your slideshow before setting your audio fade. To trim your audio, simply click on the music, it shows you a list of options including “Trim.” Select this option and you will be able to trim your audio by adjusting the length of the bar on either sides or just clicking the forward and backward buttons on either side!

wedding presentation photo

12. Diversifying your Transition Settings

Initially, when you set your transitions, you chose just one transition effect, and that became the default transition setting for all the clips in your slideshow. You can set different transitions for each clip in your slideshow to give it a touch of excitement.

It’s pretty simple. To do this, just click on each small box-ish icon between your clips. It will quickly reveal a bunch of transition options, and you can just choose which appeals to you and also set the duration just like you did with the default transition setting.

Interested in learning more about transitions? Check up our blog on how to add a seamless transition to your video.

  • Saving your Masterpiece

Now you’ve added all the lovely extra touches to your slideshow. Don’t be shy to experiment more with all the awesome features of Animotica, you might just be blown away by what you’ll find!

However, if you’re feeling quite satisfied at this point, then it is time to call it a wrap and save your work.

Simply click on “Save.”

wedding presentation photo

This takes you to the “Export Video” window. You will find a few options, such as “Video Resolution” and “Bitrate.”

wedding presentation photo

The video resolution is set at 720p by default. This is the optimal balance between quality and size. Going below this results in lower quality and smaller size, going above it results in the opposite.

As for the bitrate, taking it below the default setting will result in faster export and lower quality, while going high will result in the opposite.

You can leave everything as they are and hit on “Save,” or you can adjust the settings as you deem fit.

Once you hit on “Save,” you are done! Just relax and watch your video get rendered for you!

When the rendering is completed, you can now do what you like with it. You can even upload it directly to YouTube, or share with another app!

How to Make a Wedding Slideshow

Selena Lopez

Updated on: August 16, 2023

slideshows

Slideshows are one of the most powerful ways to display your photography. With the right song, the right image selections, and the right timing of those images, you can bring your brides (and maybe even some grooms) to tears, all while exposing your work to all of their family and friends as gets shared on their Facebooks, Twitters and email groups.  On the other hand, some slideshows can be pretty ineffective. If it contains unflattering images, if it’s set to a less-than-moving song, or if it’s just plain boring, it’s not going to be enjoyed and shared. To help you ensure that you’re not wasting your time creating ineffective slideshows, here is a step-by-step tutorial on creating powerful, interesting, slideshows.

The Number of Images to Select

The first step is viewing and selecting your images. It’s best to use a good image file management system that allows you to rate, filter, and rename your images like the Library module of Adobe Lightroom or Adobe Bridge. To select an image, either star or flag your selections, depending on your preference, ensuring that you’re consistent throughout the process.

adobe bridge

A common problem that we want to avoid is trying to cram too many images into a slideshow. I’m sure you’ve seen slideshows where the images fly by without giving the viewer the opportunity to appreciate any one of the images. The ideal number of images is somewhere around 100 to 150 images for a single-song slideshow; and while there isn’t a magic number, there are some general rules to follow. Use these rules as a general guideline, but realize that none of them are absolutes and can be broken at any time with an artistic vision.

Average Timing of an Image – Never go below 1.5 seconds per image and rarely go over 2 seconds per image. What does this mean? If the song, for example, is only 3 minutes, you’ll only be able to select a maximum of 120 images. Use the following equation:

  • Number of Seconds of the Song/1.5 = Maximum Number of Images . Don’t worry too much about the minimum, as too few images is almost never the issue.
  • Fewer Images with Slower Songs – Each image should be shown, on average for around 1.75 to 2 seconds for slower songs
  • More Images with Average to Faster songs – Each image should be shown for around 1.5 to 1.75 seconds for average to faster songs like White Dress by Ben Rector or Good Life by One Republic.

Which Images to Select

In general, slideshows are there to serve two purposes. The first is to make the client and their guests excited and happy by portraying their wedding as an emotional, romantic, and fun event (even if it wasn’t). The second is to display our work at its best, absent of any gregarious amateur mistakes and timed to great, fitting music. With that in mind, we have to be very selective on which images we display by following the guidelines below.

Avoid the “Odd Man Out” – For example, if you decide to show each couple in the wedding party during the grand entrance, make sure you don’t show every couple except one. If there isn’t a great picture of that one couple, leave them all out and just cut right to the couple entering the room. The same situation applies to aisle shots for bridesmaids and other situations where a guest, family member, bridesmaid or groomsman should be in the scene or sequence but for some reason or another is not.

Don’t be Afraid to Leave Out Entire Scenes – If you’re too high on the number of images and you’re not sure what else you can take out, consider cutting out entire scenes that are random or out of place, less exciting and interesting, or lacking in typical quality or creativity. The point is, really hammer home certain poignant or important moments, even if, in the process, you have to leave out other good moments and images.

For example, if you have a handful of great shots of the first dance and a handful of decent cake cutting shots, consider keeping all of the great first dance shots that build up the emotion of the moment, even if you have to sacrifice the entire cake cutting scene if it’s lacking excitement. In another example, if the tea ceremony or the door games in a Cantonese wedding are good but don’t necessarily flow with the slideshow, feel free to leave those entire moments out when necessary.

Exclude Most Formals – Unless the subjects in the formals are doing something unique or fun, leave out all of the formals shots as a standard formal, while maybe well shot, really isn’t that interesting.

Include Images in Sequence – A big part of our slideshow style is including slightly different images of the same moment in a sequence. When they are placed together in a fast-moving, video-like sequence, they create an interesting portrayal of a certain moment. In order for this to be effective, there has to be a very similar crop on all of the images used in the sequence. Here are a few examples of images that we would likely place one after another with a quick between the images. Other common moments that work well with this effect are: 1) First Look – sequence of the bride walking towards the groom, 2) The Aisle – sequence of bride walking down the aisle or couple walking back down the aisle, 3) The First Kiss – sequence of couple looking at each other, going in for the kiss, and reacting afterwards, 4) The Grand Entrance – sequence of couple entering the room, and 5) The Reception Dancing – sequence of the couple dancing.

slideshows

On occasion, combine this effect with the “6) Include Two Identical Images with Different Post Production” point below, going through a set of sequence shots and ending with a transition to a different post production effect.

Include Images with Different Focuses – Like the previous point, this effect requires that the images be very similar in composition (crop). If you have two similar images with different focuses, place them one after the other to create an interesting effect. For example, the image below is of a bride’s mother smiling at her daughter on her wedding day. The image preceding the one below in our slideshow of Betty and Wayne’s wedding at the City Club Bunker Hill has the same crop but focuses on Betty getting ready in the foreground.

03-city-club-bunkerhill-los-angeles-wedding

Include Images of the Same Moment at Different Focal Lengths – This is especially great for big moments like the first kiss and the first dance. A series of two or three images at the same angle but different focal lengths has an interesting effect for a slideshow. For example, if you have a wide shot of the first kiss (shot directly down the aisle) and a close-up shot of that exact same moment taken from the same angle, place one right after the other.

Organize and Rename Images

After you’ve selected all of your images, organize them. In Adobe Bridge, you can drag and drop your images to rearrange them in the order of your choice. Once the image order is finalized, rename the images (in “Tools” -> “Batch Rename” use “Sequence Number” with “Three Digits”) so that the image names correspond with the image order. After renaming the images, place them in their own folder (in a place that’s easily accessible, as you’ll be using this folder to create the slideshow).

In organizing the order of the images, follow these guidelines:

1) Set the Scene – Anytime the scene changes, i.e. at the beginning of the slideshow, before the ceremony, or before the reception, set the scene with a few images of detail and venue shots. If these don’t exist, at the very least, make sure you start the slideshow with a few non-people shots. Ideally there is a shot of something with the couples’ names, ring shots, bouquet shots, or venue shots. Don’t start the slideshow with night time shots, as this throws the viewer off of the timeline of the day.

wedding presentation photo

2) If Needed, Stray From Actual Timeline – Create the slideshow so that it flows, even if you have to stray from the timeline. For example, if a great shot of the couple looks like it could be a part of the first dance sequence, include it with that set of pictures. On the same note, if a great candid of a guest is taken during the first dance but doesn’t fit the first dance story, make sure you don’t distract from the moment by including it among the first dance images. Moments need to be clumped together. For example, shots of the reception venue, details, and food should be clumped together, as opposed to being presented in the order they were actually taken. On the same note, feel free to save the detail shot of the cake for the image right before showing the cake cutting.

3) Include a Set of Candids Near the End – Near the end of a slideshow, include a set of candids from the reception. Each of these shots doesn’t have to be amazing or perfect, each just needs to scream “fun.” As the slideshow is nearing the end, it needs to be the climax of emotion, the final push to show that it was a fun and great wedding.

wedding presentation photo

Include at least 5-10 of these pictures of people dancing, smiling, and laughing. We’ll talk more about the timing of the images, but in general, you can go through these a bit quicker than the average image in the slideshow.

4) End with Something Beautiful, Fun or Significant – The final image or set of images before the Studio Logo should be something interesting or powerful. This can be a fun group shot at the end of the night, romantic night shots of the couple, ring shots (if they were taken at night), the couple’s exit from the venue, etc. Whatever it is, make sure it’s not a shot of anyone other than the main couple.

Select the Song

Our style of slideshows uses songs that are usually modern, not too classic and romantic. As much as you can, match the wedding with the vibe and style of the wedding. If the wedding was a quick ceremony and a lot of partying, go with a faster, upbeat, and party-centric song. If the majority of the pictures are romantic and emotional, you might consider using a softer, slower song.

Create Show and Adjust the Timing

After the images are selected, arranged and renamed, the next step is to create the actual slideshow using your slideshow software of choice.

1) Upload Song – Upload the song you selected in the “Timing” Tab by clicking the plus sign in the “Music and Templates” tab.

2) Record timing – Time the song by clicking on the “Record Timing” tab and clicking “Fit to Song.” While this isn’t the final timing of the slideshow, it is a good starting point from which we’ll make adjustments.

3) Test the Slideshow – Click “Save & Preview Show” to make sure the average image isn’t moving too quickly or too slowly with the understanding that you’re going to make adjustments to specific images.

4) Delete and Arrange Images – It’s important that you make any last minute deletions and arrangements of your images at this point before you start custom timing your images.

5) Custom Time the Slideshow – Click the “Custom Timing” tab and custom time your slideshow based on the following guidelines:

  • Lengthen the first few images – Make the first few images longer than the average image to introduce the viewer to the wedding; sort of an acclimation rather than throwing the viewer directly into the wedding.
  • Speed up Select Shots – Shorten the length of the shots in sequences, identical shots that fade to and from different styles of post production, and the set of candid shots at the reception. All of these were discussed in the previous sections of this article.
  • Extend the Best Shots- If there’s an awesome HDR image, a perfect crying mother image, or anything else that deserves a little bit of extra time, extend these shots.
  • Shorten Some Shots – To compensate for the extended shots above, shorten some of their surrounding shots.
  • Extend the Last Few Shots – Make the last few shots last a little longer to emphasize the last few powerful, interesting, or emotional images; and make sure you time it well with the ending of the song. For example, if the last note is held out, don’t have the images changing while that note is being held out.
  • Add in the Logo – Add one final image, the studio Logo, to the slideshow by clicking “Add New Photo” in the “Images” tab and finding the appropriate image.
  • Test the Show – Click “Save and Preview Show” to see what it looks like.
  • Make Adjustments – If the show ran too long or certain images were displayed for too long or not long enough, go back and make your timing adjustments and tweak until you’re satisfied.

Upload to the Server and Create Blog Entry

After you’re happy with the slideshow, open an FTP client like Filezilla, log into your site, find the correct folder and upload the folder that you created containing the slideshow to that folder. After that, create your blog entry and enter in the appropriate code before publishing your slideshow. As the detailed instructions for these final step will be different for each user depending on their content management system and hosting services, we’ll leave it at that.

11 Memorable Wedding Presentation Ideas & Examples

  • by Marisa Jenkins
  • October 31, 2023

Beyond just solemnizing your relationship, weddings are all about gathering the people you value and celebrating with them. Couples are becoming more unique and technologically savvy with how they keep their guests engaged — including wedding presentations.

Wedding presentations are electronic slideshows that feature pictures and videos of the couple. Unforgettable content in a presentation at a wedding may come from yearbook photos, interviews with loved ones, bloopers from engagement photo shoots, and more.

Below are 11 wonderful wedding presentation ideas for your reception, along with some examples to inspire you. An in-depth guide for creating your own wedding slideshow is also provided.

Presentation at a Wedding: Special Ideas to Consider

bride and groom nose to nose

1. Show Your Yearbook Photos

Whether you and your partner are getting married in your 20s , 30s, or 40s, showing yearbook photos is an entertaining and endearing idea. Your guests will see how much you have grown over the years — not only in terms of physique but also in maturity and personality.

Look back at your ambitions in preschool or what you thought of as peak comedy in your middle school yearbook quote. If you and your partner met in high school or college, a nostalgic wedding presentation idea would be to show your photos side-by-side.

2. Have Someone Interview You

Utah Wedding Video | Tommy + Amanda: The Interview

When you meet your photographer or videographer, do not forget to mention that you want to have a presentation at your wedding. You can plan an interview during your engagement photoshoot.

Your photographer or videographer can coordinate with your planner — or maid of honor — if they need help coming up with questions. Videos and photos from the shoot can serve as B-rolls for the wedding presentation.

You can even play some quick games during the interview. For example, you can incorporate “ How Well Do You Know the Bride ?” into the video and ask a few entertaining questions about your spouse.

3. Play an Original Song

Michal And Josh's Wedding Video: Friends

If you or your partner are musically inclined, consider composing a short original song for your wedding presentation. It does not have to be three to five minutes long; you can play the song during a specific part of the slideshow.

Alternatively, a friend or relative might volunteer to write an original song for you as a wedding gift. If they do not feel comfortable performing it live, ask them if you can incorporate the piece into your slideshow.

4. Sing a Cover and Use It as Background Music

Even though you consider yourself musically inclined, you might think songwriting is not your strong suit. In this case, why not pick a personally meaningful song and provide your own rendition for the slideshow?

This song might be the music playing on your first date, or it might be from an artist you bonded over when you first met. You can also cover the second choice for your wedding first dance music as a way to include it in your reception.

5. Show Bloopers from Your Engagement Photoshoot

woman taking a picture of her boyfriend

The polished images from your engagement photoshoot might already be included in your wedding videographer’s outputs. As such, consider including bloopers and other pictures that did not make the final cut.

Pictures wherein you and your partner are making goofy or wacky poses will be perfect for your slideshow. You can also include any stolen or candid shots from other people in the photo shoot, such as relatives and friends.

6. Add Travel Photos

Everyone might know you as a well-traveled couple who has visited many states, countries, and continents. In this case, a memorable wedding presentation idea would be to include some photos from your favorite trips.

This idea for a wedding presentation is especially fitting for a destination wedding. For example, if your ceremony is at Lake Como , show some pictures you took while traveling around the area. Let your guests see what made you fall in love with the place and your venue.

7. Include Family Photos

One way to pay homage to your family is by including them in your wedding presentation. Look for pictures where all your relatives are present.

If you have a family member that has passed on, this idea is a touching way to honor them. You can feel their spirit with you, even if they cannot be physically present.

If you or your partner have children from a previous marriage, add pictures that show you and your stepkids bonding. Earning their trust and forming a bond with them might have been challenging, but all the difficulties are worth it.

8. Compile Well Wishes from Loved Ones

Jones + Divya | Wedding Video Message

The presentation at your wedding can be a compilation of well-wishes and messages from your loved ones. You can ask your friends and relatives to record a short video where they can say anything they want — anecdotes, blessings, and whatnot.

This idea is particularly excellent if you have a lot of friends and relatives who cannot attend your ceremony; they might be too far away, have prior commitments, or have a personal reason for why they cannot go.

9. Interview Your Friends and Family

If you and your partner think an interview sounds like a fantastic wedding presentation idea but do not want to be featured yourself, why not have your loved ones in front of the camera?

You can ask someone to prepare a list of questions to be answered by friends, family, and anyone you want to hear from. This idea is a sentimental gesture, something you can rewatch years down the line and feel touched by.

10. Share Your Passions

Odds are your guests will have varying levels of familiarity with you. Some might be aware of your interests and hobbies, while others might simply know you as a distant cousin or your partner’s partner.

Wedding presentations are a great way to give more information about yourself. After all, you are more than just a spouse.

If you like sports, show a picture of you at a golf course holding your favorite club. If you are an artist, why not share some images of your previous works? If you have a diverse and colorful home garden, boast about it through your photos.

11. Tell Your Life Story

"The Story of Us" Jonathan & JoEllen Wedding Slideshow

Most of the wedding presentation ideas above focus on specific parts or aspects of your life. However, keep in mind that you can use your wedding presentation to narrate the story of your relationship.

The example above starts with childhood photos of the bride and the groom. To give the slideshow structure, the creator included some text and narration. Within 10 minutes, the couple was able to tell a cohesive story of how they grew up, found each other, and started a life together.

Visualize Your Presentation

Before looking into what software to use, try to figure out how you want your presentation to look. Do you prefer a simple but elegant scrapbook-like collection of photos, or do you want to intersperse footage from a photo shoot with interviews?

Having an idea of what you want to achieve can make it easier for you to find the right software. Likewise, doing so will help you determine if you need to ask for help from a professional.

Choose the Software You Will Use

adobe softwares

There are plenty of free software options you can explore.

  • Canva – a free-to-use graphic design tool with thousands of templates to suit your needs. You can edit presentations, videos, accompanying social media posts, and more. You also have access to tons of elements — stock media, digital illustrations, etc. — for free or a certain price.
  • PowerPoint – a classic software package that allows you to design electronic presentations from scratch or following a template. This program is easy to use and learn.
  • Google Slides – another software for producing electronic presentations similar to PowerPoint. Whereas PowerPoint is an offline program, Google Slides is part of Google Workspace; like Canva, you can work on the same document with other people in real-time.
  • iMovie – a video-editing program that comes with the Apple ecosystem. This software comes with a variety of elements and transitions that will allow you to smoothly create your wedding presentation.
  • Animotica – a video editor, movie maker, and slideshow maker available to users of Windows 10. It is simple and intuitive, allowing you to add pictures, trim clips, overlay elements, and more.

There are other options, such as Smilebox, Animoto, and Adobe Spark, each with its own pros and cons. If you are already familiar with a specific program, feel free to use it to start your wedding presentation.

Browse Templates and Search for Inspiration

The programs listed above come with a library of templates and elements you can use for a presentation at a wedding. In particular, choosing a template will make editing easier and more seamless.

Instead of simply going with the first template you see, try to browse through your options until you find one that matches your theme. It can be as simple as your wedding color scheme or as elaborate as a Friends-inspired presentation.

Set a Duration for Your Slideshow

person typing on laptop

Nowadays, most of us have shorter attention spans. While a 15-minute slideshow sounds great in theory, it might not be ideal in practice; your guests might not find it entertaining or engaging anymore after the 10-minute mark.

As such, make your wedding presentation 10 minutes at most. This duration allows you to include approximately 50 to 130 images. If you want to add videos and recordings, try to trim them down as short as possible.

Gather Your Photos and Videos

woman working on her pc

Spend some time looking through old albums, Facebook posts from years ago, and storage drives. You can also ask your friends and relatives to send you anything they have.

Besides actually editing the slideshow, this part of the process might take you the longest to finish. Give yourself enough time to collect photos and videos, choose the best ones, and import them to your device with the highest quality possible.

Finalize Your Slideshow

Once the presentation is finished, you can add final touches to make it more engaging and pleasing. Firstly, consider adding background music. However, make sure to match the music to the theme and tone of the presentation.

Secondly, feel free to add any transitions, overlays, and other elements. Again, keep your theme in mind — do not put anything for the sake of putting it.

Lastly, go through the slideshow and try to catch any typographical errors and other mistakes. If you happen to miss some and only notice them while presenting the slideshow at your reception, do not worry; it happens to the best of us.

Save Your Slideshow and Back It Up

person working on her laptop

Download your file once you are satisfied with the output. The specifics depend on the venue and technological requirements; you might need to save your slideshow in a flash drive or add it to a shared folder.

Ask staff from the venue and pertinent wedding vendors for instructions.

Do not forget to save multiple backups of your slideshow. Save it on the cloud, make a copy in Google Drive, put one in a flash drive, send it to yourself via email, and so forth. You can never be too safe.

Make Time for Your Wedding Presentation

Commonly, presentations at weddings are played during the reception. However, you have other options for the timing of your slideshow presentation:

  • At the rehearsal dinner
  • During cocktail hour

If you are worried about being short of time — or losing your guests’ attention quickly — then you can have the slideshow playing in the background while they eat and socialize. You can have the slideshow repeat on mute until the next agendum on your reception timeline .

This Ballerina Bride Wore an 18th-Century-Style Corset for Her “Enchanted Forest” Wedding

This Ballerina Bride Wore an 18thCenturyStyle Corset for Her “Enchanted Forest” Wedding

Eva Alt likens meeting Sharif Khalje to getting “hit by lightning.” Introduced by mutual friends in 2019, they fell in love almost instantly after their first kiss on her Soho stoop: “It was one of those all-consuming, fast, amazing loves, like in the movies. Except that it actually happened and it’s our real life,” Eva says.

In 2022, Sharif proposed to Eva on a small, rocky beach on Shelter Island only reachable by sailboat. “It was the last weekend of the season and we went for a long walk to the beach to the end of the point. The weather was overcast, with a sky full of dramatic clouds, a little cool and gray. Eva was wandering around collecting shells when I asked her to come sit with me,” Sharif says. He pulled out a Mughal-cut diamond ring, a symbolic shape for the couple: “It was the first way diamonds were ever cut, where the facets follow the unique shape of the stone, as opposed to a symmetrical, arbitrary geometry,” he explains. Such a concept reminded him of Eva, who he considers to be a true original. “I encouraged her to ‘be the rarest,’ and this metaphor became a touchstone in our relationship,” he says.

She said yes. As they embraced on the shore, passing boats honked and cheered.

Eva and Sharif wed on September 9, 2023, at his family’s 100-acre farm outside Baltimore which dates back to the 18th century. “We always knew we would get married at the farm,” says Eva. “The farm has rolling green hills as far as the eye can see, big red barns, and a white farmhouse with black shutters. Very idyllic and classic.”

Eva, a ballet dancer, and Sharif, an architect, knew they wanted to plan the wedding themselves. Inspired by visual references from Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antionette , Eva dreamed up a grand black-tie outdoor party with pastel and feminine accents. Meanwhile, Sharif built the infrastructure—including a bucolic path that led from their farmhouse to their ceremony site in the middle of the woods. Amanda Shulkin of Muse and Co. helped with day-of coordination, while Pomona Florals sourced their garden roses, sweet peas, and hydrangeas.

On a moody afternoon in Maryland, Eva walked down an aisle of antique oriental rugs to meet Sharif in a poplar tree grove planted by the groom’s grandfather 60 years ago. “The path through the forest to reach the ceremony was mysterious and winding, which dramatized the arrival, and created a beautiful surprise. We covered the forest floor with my father’s antique oriental rugs, arranged the wood benches like pews, and hoisted ribbons from the altar tree to the flanking rows,” Sharif says.

Eva wore a silk bustier with 18th-century gigot-style sleeves, inspired by John Galliano’s 1993 “Olivia and Filibuster” collection . She designed it with her mother-in-law, Susan Khalje, a couturier and couture sewing teacher. “I love the drama,” Eva says of her bridal look. “The top also referenced tutu bodices, as well as a held-together feeling that was both familiar and comfortable to me.” She accented it with a matching skirt, Manolo Blahnik heels, and ornate gold filigree earrings—a poignant “something borrowed” from Susan.

After the readings of two poems—“Ulysses” by Alfred, Lord Tennyson and “The Springtime of Lovers” by Rumi—the couple recited their vows amid what Eva describes as an “enchanted forest.”

“It was a deeply romantic ceremony,” she says.

Afterwards, they held an aperitif in the barn before heading further into the grounds for dinner. As the sun set, a traditional Afghan feast was served under a billowing white tent. “Think: lamb with rice, kebab, eggplant, squash, and our favorite dish, mantu , which is a little dumpling with ground lamb inside, served with scallions and yogurt sauce,” Eva explains. “People were going for thirds!” For dessert, they had a Champagne Rosé cake with raspberry jam and meringue from Bramble Baking Co. in Baltimore.

Fireworks exploded over the field as they headed back into the barn to party. The bride choreographed their first dance to “We Belong Together” by Ritchie Valens. She took cues from the movie Dirty Dancing and the Balanchine ballets Slaughter on Tenth Avenue and Vienna Waltzes .

Eva then changed into her second look for the night, a vintage Callaghan dress designed by Romeo Gigli—an ideal choice, she explains, because of the skirt’s ability to twirl. By the end of the night, everyone was barefoot.

Looking back on it now, Eva and Sharif say their wedding was more beautiful than they could have hoped for. “The intimacy, both of it being a smaller wedding and having it at home, created this environment where we think everyone (including ourselves) felt really open and free to be themselves,” Eva says.
