Effects of Environmental Pollution ماحولیاتی آلودگی کے اثرات

آلودگی کے اثرات:-

دنیا کے ہر ہجوم صنعتی شہروں کی ترقی نے ماحول میں آلودگی پیدا کر کے بڑے مسائل پیدا کر دیئے ہیں۔ ان شہروں کی فیکٹریوں اور لوگوں کی آلودگی چھوٹے علاقوں میں کھلے عام پھینک دی جاتی ہے۔جس سے زہریلی گیس بن کر فضا ء میں مل جاتی ہے۔ اس آلودگی نے دریاؤں اور جھیلوں کے پانی کو بھی متاثر کیا ہے اور لوگ مختلف بیماریوں کا شکار ہوچکے ہیں ۔ آٹو گاڑیوں کے مضرد ھوئیں اور زور دار آوازوں سے لوگوں کی وقوت سماعت کم ہو رہی ہے۔ فیکٹریوں سے نکلنے والا زہریلا دھوا ں فضائی بیماریاں پیدا کرتا ہے۔ٹرانسپورٹرز اور صنعت کاروں کا یہ کہنا ہے کہ ہم عوام کو سستی ٹرانسپورٹ مہیا کرتے ہیں اور لوگوں کو ملازمتیں فراہم کرتے ہیں ۔ کھاد سے زمین کمزور ہو جاتی ہے۔ لیکن کیڑے مار نے والی ادویات تیار کرنے والوں کا کہنا ہے کہ فصلوں کو نقصان دینے والے کیڑوں کو مارنا ضروری ہے تاکہ فصل کی پیدا وارمیں اضافہ ہو۔

زہریلے پانی سے آبی جانور مر جاتے ہیں۔ فضائی آلودگی سے قدرتی حسن خراب ہو جاتا ہے۔ بھارت میں تاج محل کے قریب کیمیکل تیار کرنے والی فیکٹری سے نکلنے والا زہریلا دھواں اس تاریخی خوبصوت عمارت کے حسن کو خراب کر رہا ہے۔ کاروں سے نکلنے والے دھوئیں میں نائٹروجن آکسائیڈ گیس شامل ہوتی ہے ہائی پریشر کمپرسن انجن میں گیس سے اٹھنے والا دھواں زیادہ زہریلا ثابت ہوا ہے۔

فضائی آلودگی:-

3 دسمبر 1984ء کو بھارت کے شہر بھوپال میں کیڑے مارنے والی ادویات کا دھواں اور زہریلی گیس کے خارج ہونے سے 3000 افراد ہلاک ہو گئے تھے۔ اس قسم کے حادثات امریکہ میں بھی ہوئے۔ امریکی ریاست ورجنیا میں کیمیکل فیکٹری سے زہریلی گیس کے خارج ہونے سے 100 افراد لقمہ اجل بن گئے تھے۔فضائی آلودگی سے آنکھوں اور پھیپھڑوں کو سخت نقصان ہوتا ہے۔ بعض حالتوں میں کینسر جیسے موذی مرض کے بھی لوگ شکا ر ہوئے ہیں۔ بعض مختلف بیماریوں کے باعث مرگئے۔ زہریلی فضائی آلودگی سے قیمتی اور نایاب پرندے بھی ہلاک ہو گئے کئی جانور بھی مر گئے۔ ان کی تعدار بھی کم ہو رہی ہے۔ کئی شکاریوں نے بعض خوبصورت پرندے اور نایاب جانور پکڑ کربلیک مارکیٹ میں بھاری معاوضہ کے عوض فروخت کر دیئے۔

آسڑیلیاں کا لمبی دم والا 4 رنگ کا خوبصورت طوطا (MACAW) 20,000 ڈالر میں فروخت ہوتا ہے۔ مڈغا سکر کاکچھوا (PLOWSHARE) بھی 20,000 ڈالر میں ملتا ہے۔ بعد نایاب قسم کے پرندے اور جانور 50,000 ڈالر میں فروخت ہوتے ہیں۔ اتنا بھاری معاوضہ دینے والوں کا کہنا ہے ۔ کہ کم نے اس قسم کے جانور اور پرندوں کی نسل بچانے کیلئے یہ رقم دی ہے۔ اتنی رقم دینے والی امریکی سرمایہ کار اور برونئی کے شاہ ہیں۔ ماحولیاتی آلودگی اور اوزون کی تہہ سے خلا کے باعث ہماری زمین تک پہنچنے والی الٹراوئلٹ شعاعیں ہماری فضاء کو خطرناک حد تک گرم کر رہی ہیں۔ جس سے دنیا کی حرارت میں ایک ڈگری سینٹی گریڈ اضافہ ہو چکا ہے ۔ اگر یہی حالت رہی تو جانوروں اور پودوں کو نقصان پہنچے گا۔ انسانوں میں جلد کا کینسر پھیل جانے کا بھی امکان ہے۔اگر قطب جنوبی پر برف پگھلنا شروع ہو گئی تو یہ خوفناک سیلابوں اور طوفانوں کا سبب بنے گی۔

اسلام آباد میں ماحولیاتی آلودگی پر انٹرنیشنل سیمینار میں اس امر کا خدشہ ظاہر کیا گیا ہے کہ ایشیاء کے چند ممالک بے حد متاثر ہوں گے ۔ سمندروں میں پانی کی زیادتی سے سری لنکا اور کرچی پانی میں ڈوب جائیں گے اور بنگلہ دیش کا کچھ حصہ کاکسس بازار اور میمن سنگھ کے علاوہ سلہٹ کے ڈوب جانے کا بھی امکان ہے ۔ اس آلودگی میں نائٹروجن ڈائی آکسائیڈ ، گند ھک ، کاربن مونو آکسائیڈ اور کلورو فلور کاربن شامل ہیں ۔ ان زہریلی گیسوں کی وجہ سے ہم پھیپھڑوں کی سوزش ، کالی کھانسی ، نمونیا اور انفلوئنزا جیسے خطرناک امراض کا شکار ہوسکتے ہیں۔ عالمی ادارہ صحت کی رپورٹ کے مطابق دنیا کے 80 کروڑ افراد کو ہوا میں سلفر ڈائی آکسائیڈ کی غیر معمولی مقدار کا سامنا ہے۔ رپورٹ میں بتایا گیا ہے۔ کہ فضائی آلودگی کے باعث تین ہزار افراد کینسر کا شکار ہو کر اس دنیا سے رخصت ہو گئے۔

شور کی مضراثرات:-

آواز ہماے کانوں میں میکانی توانائی کی لہروں کی صورت میں داخل ہوتی ہے۔ آواز کی شدت کی پیمائش ڈیسی مل کہلاتی ہے۔ 90 ڈیسی مل تک آوازیں نقصان دہ نہیں ہوتیں ۔ اس سے زیادہ بلند آواز نقصان دہ ہوتی ہے۔ قریب سے زیادہ زور وار آواز سماعت کو ختم کر سکتی ہے۔ جس کا کوئی علاج نہیں ہے اور مریض کو اعلیٰ سماعت کا استعمال کرنا پڑتا ہے۔ شہروں میں موٹر گاڑیوں کی آوازیں ، جہازوں کی آوازیں ، کارخانوں میں مشینوں کی آوازیں ، میوزک کنسرٹ آوازیں 120 ڈیسی مل تک پہنچ جاتی ہیں۔ جو خطرے کا باعث ہیں ۔ یہ آوازیں ہوائی حملے کے دوران بجنے والے سائرن کی آواز کے برابر ہیں آوازیں بلڈ پریشر اور دل کے مریضوں کیلئے خطرناک ہیں ۔ شور کے ماحول میں رہنے سے ذہنی دباؤ تھکن ، سانس کی تکلیف اور نیند میں کمی کی بیماریاں جنم لیتی ہیں ۔

پانی کی آلودگی:-

دو عالمی جنگوں کے تباہ کن اثرات کی بنا پر جرمنی میں لوگ عام نلکوں کا پانی نہیں پیتے ۔ اس پانی سے پاقی ضروریات پوری کرتے ہیں۔پینے کیلئے سارہ منرل واٹر یا لیمن واٹر کا استعمال کرتے ہیں۔ جرمن ڈاکٹروں کا کہنا ہے کہ فضایہ آلودگی اور جنگی اثرات ابھی تک جرمنی کی زمین میں شامل ہیں ۔ فضائی آلودہ پانی دیکھنے میں صاف نظر آتا ہے۔ لیکن اس میں جراثیم ہوتے ہیں ۔جو باعث تکلیف ، بیماری اورر موت کا باعث بنتے ہیں۔ جرمنی کی کیمیکل اور دیگر فیکٹریوں سے خارج ہونے والے مضر پانی میں فیکٹری ایریا سے باہر خارج ہونے سے پہلے ایسے کیمیکل ڈال دیے جاتے ہیں جو فضا میں خطرناک آلودگی کا باعث نہ بن سکیں لیکن یہ احتیاط دوسرے کی ملک میں نہیں کی جاتی ۔

فضا آلودہ پانی سے ہیضہ ، پیچس اور دیگر بیماریاں لاحق ہوتی ہیں۔ بعض ممالک میں پانی میں کلورین شامل کی جاتی ہے۔ تاکہ زہریلے جراثیم مر جائے ۔ فضائی آلودہ پانی سے تیراکی اور کشتی رانی کرنے والی بھی متاثر ہوتے ہیں ۔ بعض مقامات پر آ بی جانور ہلاک ہو جاتے ہیں۔ بڑے ہوٹلوں اور دیگر مقامات پر تیراکی کے پول پر نہانا مضر قرار دیا گیا ہے۔ بعض لوگ جلد کی بیماریوں کا شکا ر ہو گئے ۔ غیر ملکی مرد، عورتیں ، عریاں لباس میں نہاتے ہیں'ان کے جسموں سے مختلف بیماریوں کے جراثیم پانی میں شامل ہو جاتے ہیں ۔ پو ل پر نہانے کے بعد گرم پانی سے معیاری سوپ کے ذریعے غسل کرنے کی ہدایت دی گئی ہیں۔

حفاظتی تدابیر:-

• ماحولیاتی آلودگی کے بارے میں لوگوں کو آگاہ کیا جائے۔ اخبارات معلوماتی فیچر لکھیں۔ ریڈیو، ٹی وی ماحولیات پر پروگرام ترتیب دیں۔ ٹی وی پر پروگرام کا وقت رات 8 بجے کے ڈرامہ سے پہلے مقرر کیا جائے۔ اس پروگرام میں بڑے سائز کے شاپنگ بیگ میں کوڑا کرکٹ مقررہ جگہ پر پھینکتے ہوئے دکھایا جائے۔
• نوجوانوں کو ماحولیاتی تعلیم دی جائے۔
• آلودگی پر کنٹرول کرنے کے بارے میں ماہرین کے لکھے ہوئے مضامین پر مبنی لڑیچر فراہم کیا جائے۔
• علاقے میں فضائی آلودگی ختم کرنے کیلئے زیادہ سے زیادہ لوگوں کو شامل کیا جائے۔
• کارپوریشن کے عملہ کو ہر علاقہ سے روزانہ کوڑا کرکٹ اکٹھا کرنے پر سختی سے عمل کرایاجائے۔
• محلہ کمیٹیاں بنائی جائیں جو اپنے علاقوں میں صفائی کی نگرانی رکھیں۔ یہ کمیٹیاں پاکستان کے دیہاتوں اور شہروں میں ہر علاقے میں تشکیل دی جائیں ۔
• محکمہ ماحولیات کے کارکن باری باری ہر علاقے میں جاکر لوگوں کو ماحولیاتی آلودگی کے نقصانات سے آگاہ کریں۔ نئی تجاویز دیں اور لوگوں کو خود اس مسئلے پر عمل کرنے کی ترغیب دیں۔

You can define the environment as the sum total of all the surroundings of a living organism. It includes the physical and chemical elements and other natural forces. Everything around you makes up your environment. It is the natural world in which humans, animals, plants, and hundreds of thousands of other creatures live and reproduce.

According to P. Gisbert, there are four types of environments, namely, natural, artificial, social, and psychological. Marshal Jones talked about three kinds of environment, that is, physical, social, and cultural. Kimbal Young divided the environment into two types, viz. geographic and socio-cultural.

Environmental pollution refers to the contamination of the natural surroundings with different pollutants that cause adverse change. Environmental pollutants include chemical substances, heat, noise, and light.

Based on the type of pollutant, there can be several types of environmental pollution. They include air pollution, water pollution, thermal pollution, light pollution, noise pollution, visual pollution, soil contamination, littering, and radioactive contamination. Here the visual pollution refers to open storage of trash and solid waste and the presence of motorway billboards and overhead power lines.

A report published in "The Guardian" in 2017 claimed that global pollution is killing around 9 million people a year and that it is threatening the survival of human societies. According to the landmark study, toxic water, air, soil, and workplace kill millions of people and incur the loss of trillions of dollars every year.

The toxic or polluted environment causes diseases which kill one in every six individuals around the world. The deaths resulting from pollution are triple those from tuberculosis, malaria, and AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) combined.

The poorer nations are the ones most affected by pollution-related deaths. For example, pollution is responsible for a quarter of all deaths in the countries, like India, Madagascar, and Chad. The modern forms of pollution are affecting the developed countries, like the US and Japan. Chemical pollution and fossil fuel-related air pollution are some of the modern forms of pollution.

تازہ پانی زمین پر زندگی کا بنیادی ذریعہ ہے۔ کوئی بھی جانور بغیر خوراک کے چند دن گزار سکتا ہے لیکن پانی اور آکسیجن کے بغیر ایک منٹ کے لیے بھی زندگی کا تصور کرنا مشکل ہے۔ مسلسل بڑھتی ہوئی آبادی کی وجہ سے پینے، دھونے، صنعتی استعمال، زراعت، سوئمنگ پول اور دیگر واٹر اسپورٹس مراکز جیسے مقاصد کے لیے مزید پانی کی مانگ میں اضافہ ہو رہا ہے۔

آبی آلودگی دنیا بھر میں لوگوں کی طرف سے بڑھتی ہوئی طلب اور عیش و آرام کی زندگی کے لیے مسابقت کی وجہ سے کی جا رہی ہے۔ بہت سی انسانی سرگرمیوں سے پیدا ہونے والا فضلہ پورے پانی کو خراب کر دیتا ہے اور پانی میں آکسیجن کی مقدار کم کر دیتا ہے۔ اس طرح کی آلودگی پانی کی طبعی، کیمیائی، تھرمل اور بائیو کیمیکل خصوصیات کو کم کرتی ہے اور پانی کے باہر اور اندر کی زندگی کو بری طرح متاثر کرتی ہے۔

جب ہم آلودہ پانی پیتے ہیں تو خطرناک کیمیکل اور دیگر آلودگی جسم کے اندر داخل ہو کر جسم کے تمام اعضاء کے افعال میں خلل ڈالتے ہیں اور ہماری زندگی کو خطرے میں ڈال دیتے ہیں۔ ایسے خطرناک کیمیکل جانوروں اور پودوں کی زندگی کو بھی بری طرح متاثر کرتے ہیں۔ جب پودے اپنی جڑوں کے ذریعے گندا پانی جذب کرتے ہیں، تو وہ بڑھنا بند کر دیتے ہیں اور مر جاتے ہیں یا سوکھ جاتے ہیں۔ بحری جہازوں اور صنعتوں سے تیل کے اخراج سے ہزاروں سمندری پرندے ہلاک ہو جاتے ہیں۔

زمین پر زندگی کے لیے پانی سب سے ضروری چیز ہے۔ یہاں یہ کسی بھی قسم کی زندگی اور اس کے وجود کو ممکن بناتا ہے۔ یہ حیاتیات میں ماحولیاتی توازن کو برقرار رکھتا ہے۔ پینے، نہانے، توانائی پیدا کرنے، فصلوں کی آبپاشی، گندے پانی کو ٹھکانے لگانے، پیداواری عمل وغیرہ جیسے کئی مقاصد کی تکمیل کے لیے صاف پانی بہت ضروری ہے۔ بڑھتی ہوئی آبادی تیزی سے صنعتی اور غیر منصوبہ بند شہری کاری کا باعث بن رہی ہے جس سے پانی کے بڑے اور چھوٹے ذرائع میں بہت زیادہ فضلہ جا رہا ہے جو بالآخر پانی کے معیار کو خراب کر رہا ہے۔

پانی کی آلودگی کے بہت سے ذرائع ہیں (نقطی ذرائع اور غیر نکاتی ذرائع یا بکھرے ہوئے ذرائع) مختلف ذرائع سے جاری ہونے والے پانی کے مادے کی خصوصیت پر منحصر ہیں۔ صنعت میں سیوریج ٹریٹمنٹ پلانٹس، ویسٹ لینڈ فلز، خطرناک فضلہ کی جگہوں سے پوائنٹ سورس پائپ لائنیں، گٹر، گٹر وغیرہ، تیل ذخیرہ کرنے والے ٹینکوں سے رساو جو براہ راست پانی کے ذرائع میں فضلہ خارج کرتے ہیں۔ آبی آلودگی کے بکھرے ہوئے ذرائع میں زرعی کھیتوں، مویشیوں کی بہت سی خوراک، پارکنگ لاٹوں اور سڑکوں سے سطح کا پانی، شہری سڑکوں سے طوفان کا بہاؤ وغیرہ ہیں۔ غیر نکاتی آلودگی کے ذرائع بڑے پیمانے پر پانی کی آلودگی میں حصہ لیتے ہیں جس پر قابو پانا بہت مشکل اور مہنگا ہے۔

آبی آلودگی پوری دنیا کے لیے ایک بڑا ماحولیاتی اور سماجی مسئلہ ہے۔ یہ اپنے عروج پر پہنچ چکا ہے۔ نیشنل انوائرمنٹل انجینئرنگ ریسرچ انسٹی ٹیوٹ (NEERI)، ناگپور کے مطابق، اس بات کی نشاندہی کی گئی ہے کہ دریا کا 70% پانی بڑے پیمانے پر آلودہ ہو چکا ہے۔ ہندوستان کے بڑے دریائی نظام جیسے گنگا، برہم پترا، سندھ، جزیرہ نما اور جنوبی ساحلی ندی کے نظام بڑے پیمانے پر متاثر ہوئے ہیں۔ ہندوستان کا مرکزی دریا خاص طور پر گنگا ہندوستانی ثقافت اور ورثے سے بہت زیادہ وابستہ ہے۔ عام طور پر لوگ صبح سویرے غسل کرتے ہیں اور کسی بھی روزہ یا تہوار کے دوران دیوتاؤں کو گنگا کا پانی چڑھاتے ہیں۔ اپنی عبادت مکمل کرنے کے افسانے میں انہوں نے عبادت کے طریقہ کار سے متعلق تمام مواد گنگا میں ڈال دیا۔

دریاؤں میں پھینکے جانے والے فضلے سے پانی کی خود ری سائیکلنگ کی صلاحیت کو کم کرنے سے آبی آلودگی میں اضافہ ہوتا ہے، اس لیے تمام ممالک خصوصاً ہندوستان میں حکومتوں کو دریاؤں کے پانی کو صاف اور تازہ رکھنے پر پابندی لگانی چاہیے۔ صنعت کاری کی اعلیٰ سطح کے باوجود بھارت میں آبی آلودگی کی صورت حال دیگر ممالک کے مقابلے بدتر ہے۔ سنٹرل پولوشن کنٹرول بورڈ کی رپورٹ کے مطابق گنگا بھارت کا سب سے زیادہ آلودہ دریا ہے جو اس سے قبل خود کو صاف کرنے کی صلاحیت اور تیز بہنے والی ندی کے لیے مشہور تھا۔ تقریباً 45 چمڑے کی فیکٹریاں اور 10 ٹیکسٹائل ملیں اپنا فضلہ (بھاری نامیاتی فضلہ اور بوسیدہ چیزیں) براہ راست کانپور کے قریب دریا میں چھوڑتی ہیں۔ ایک اندازے کے مطابق ہر روز تقریباً 1400 ملین لیٹر سیوریج اور 200 ملین لیٹر صنعتی فضلہ مسلسل گنگا میں چھوڑا جا رہا ہے۔

دیگر اہم صنعتیں جو آبی آلودگی کا باعث بن رہی ہیں وہ ہیں شوگر مل، فرنس، گلیسرین، ٹن، پینٹ، صابن، کتائی، ریون، ریشم، سوت وغیرہ جو زہریلے فضلے کو نکالتی ہیں۔ 1984 میں، گنگا کے پانی کی آلودگی کو روکنے کے لیے گنگا ایکشن پلان شروع کرنے کے لیے حکومت نے ایک سنٹرل گنگا اتھارٹی قائم کی تھی۔ اس منصوبے کے مطابق ہریدوار سے ہگلی تک بڑے پیمانے پر 27 شہروں میں آلودگی پھیلانے والی تقریباً 120 فیکٹریوں کی نشاندہی کی گئی۔ تقریباً 19.84 ملین گیلن فضلہ لکھنؤ کے قریب گومتی ندی میں گرتا ہے گودا، کاغذ، بھٹے، چینی، کتائی، کپڑا، سیمنٹ، بھاری کیمیکل، پینٹ اور وارنش وغیرہ کا کاروبار کرنے والی فیکٹریوں سے۔ پچھلی 4 دہائیوں میں یہ صورتحال اور بھی خوفناک ہو گئی ہے۔ آبی آلودگی سے بچنے کے لیے تمام صنعتوں کو معیاری اصولوں پر عمل کرنا چاہیے، آلودگی کنٹرول بورڈ سخت قوانین بنائے، سیوریج کو ٹھکانے لگانے کی مناسب سہولت کا انتظام کیا جائے، سیوریج اور واٹر ٹریٹمنٹ پلانٹس لگائے جائیں،

پانی کے چند استعمال درج زیل ہیں جن سے پانی کی اہمیت کا اندازہ لگایا جا سکتا ہے۔

• انسان نہانے، کھانا پکانے، صفائی، پینے وغیرہ کے لیے پانی کا استعمال کرتا ہے۔
• صنعتیں اور کارخانے دیگر اشیاء بنانے کے مقاصد کے لیے پانی استعمال کرتے ہیں۔
• جانور پینے اور نہانے کے لیے پانی استعمال کرتے ہیں۔
• پودے اور درخت پانی کو پھل اُگانے اور خوراک پیدا کرنے کے لیے استعمال کرتے ہیں۔
• کسان زمین کو کاشت کرنے کے لیے پانی کا استعمال کرتے ہیں۔
• پاور پلانٹس (Power plants) اور نیوکلیئر پلانٹس (Nuclear plants) توانائی اور بجلی پیدا کرنے کے لیے پانی کا استعمال کرتے ہیں۔

پانی انسانی جسم کے لیے کیوں ضروری ہے؟

دیگر وجوہات کی بنا پر پانی انسانی جسم کے لئے بہت ضروری ہے۔ ان میں سے چند وجوہات درج ذیل ہیں۔

• ہمارے جسم کا 70 فیصد سے زیادہ حصہ پانی سے بنا ہے۔ اس کے بغیر ہم زندہ نہیں رہ سکتے۔
• پانی جسم کے درجہ حرارت کو قابو کرنے میں مدد کرتا ہے۔
• پانی ہمیں کهانے کو ہضم کرنے میں بھی مدد کرتا ہے۔
• یہ ہماری جلد کو صحت مند اور غذائیت سے بھرپور رکھتا ہے۔

پانی کو کیسے بچائیں؟ 

پانی کو ضائع ہونے سے بچانے کے مختلف طریقے ہیں۔ سب سے پہلے تمام لوگوں کو اپنے گھروں میں لیک ہونے والے نلکوں کو فوری طور پر ٹھیک کرنا چاہیے کیونکہ پانی کا ہر قطرہ قیمتی ہے۔

اسی طرح ہمیں نہانے کے لیے شاورز (Showers) کے بجائے بالٹی کا انتخاب کرنا چاہیے۔ اس کے علاوہ، لوگ دانت صاف کرتے اور برتن دھوتے وقت اپنے نل بند نہیں کرتے جس سے کافی پانی ضائع ہوتا ہے، ایسا کرتے وقت ہمیشہ نل کو بند کرنا یاد رکھیں۔

اس کے علاوہ، تمام گھروں میں بارش کے پانی کو جمع کرنے کے نظام کو بھی قائم کیا جانا چائیے۔ اس سے پانی کو بچانے میں مدد مل سکتی ہے۔

نتیجہ (Conclusion)

مختصر یہ کہ پانی انسان کی بقا کے لیے ضروری ہے۔ لیکن، بدقسمتی سے، یہ تیزی سے ضائع ہو رہا ہے۔ اس مسئلے سے نمٹنے کے لیے ہر شہری اور حکومت کو کام کرنا چائیے۔ حکومتوں کو اس بات کو یقینی بنانا چاہیے کہ تمام علاقوں کو برابر پانی ملے۔ دوسری طرف، شہریوں کو ذہن میں رکھنا چاہیے کہ وہ اسے آلودگی سے بچائیں اور سمجھداری سے استعمال کریں اور اسے غیر ضروری طور پر ضائع نہ کریں۔

Air pollution has now been one of the major problems faced by every country of the world. This is because increase in the production and use of fossil fuels in many ways e.g. industrial revolution, rapid increase in urban population results in the increase in urban transport which ultimately pollute the environment. Many cities around the world, particularly in developing countries, are experiencing rapid growth. Larger cities with highly concentrated industry, intensive transport networks and high population density are threats to urban environment. More people, more industry, and more motor vehicles cause ever-worsening air pollution which poses serious environmental threat in many cities. The World Health Organization (WHO) and other international agencies have long identified urban air pollution as a critical public health problem. The study focused on major pollutants from different sources and impact of pollutants on human health. The study provides links between air pollution and human health. Investigation finds out a complete scenario of air pollution of the study area i.e Karna Basti, Bahawalpur and the research also helpful for discussing about the importance of green spaces in maintain the urban sustainability and show how urban green spaces are helping in decreasing air pollutants level in the atmosphere. Increasing human activities in urban arena means higher demand for energy, goods and services in one side, and more emission and material wastes on the other.

We should definitely like to see Pakistan without any environmental issue but currently there are lots of challenges. As in fact we are growing at the rate of more than 8 percent in GDP and creating lots of economic opportunities, this is also growing stress and implications on environment. The constant growth in population is another massive challenge. As we grow economically, we have to decide at this point in time that we ensure better quality of life. At the end of the day, when we have more money but our quality of life suffers and we can't breathe and drink pure water; then it is not worth it. Now the Government must show scores of commitment to guarantee that as we grow, we also ensure that the quality of life of our citizens is made better and we, as a country, might be called an environment friendly country. The government should announce the 'National Environment Policy' with considerably increase in the budget for environment. Let us have a look at some of our burning environmental issues. 1. Need for tree plantations in urban centres – There is no doubt that planting trees help in maintaining good environment. Trees in urban centres help clean environment and reduce pollution. Islamabad, for instance, is one of most protected cities of the world with lot of vegetation and clean healthy environment. So there is need to plant trees in other cities like Islamabad.

Environmental pollution is a global health concern. Air, water, and soil pollution cause 16% of premature deaths worldwide. Rapid urbanization and industrialization result in the environmental pollution in developing countries, including India. Environmental degradation is a grave issue in developing countries due to a lack of awareness, inadequate legislation and faulty enforcement. This research is mainly concerned with the issue of environmental pollution and various policy initiatives undertaken by the Punjab state of India. Punjab is a predominantly agrarian state. Anthropogenic activities such as burning fossil fuels, stubble burning, excessive chemical fertilizer and industrial waste are significant contributors to environmental pollution in Punjab. This study explores the causes and effects of environmental pollution in Punjab. It is exploratory, and secondary data used in this research were collected from newspapers, e-journal articles, reliable internet sources, government reports, "Punjab Pollution Control Board", and "Central Pollution Control Board" websites. Despite environmental legislation, findings revealed an alarming upsurge in Punjab's pollution levels, leading to air, water, and soil quality degradation. It causes serious health issues. Malwa region is identified as the "Cancer capital of Punjab" due to the shocking surge in cancer cases. It concludes with measures to control environmental pollution. It recommends a crucial need for a comprehensive awareness program and the proper implementation of policies to curb the harmful effects of pollution in Punjab, India.

Pakistan is a country of 131 million populations with per capita income of US $ 488 and GDP of Rs. 6.821 trillion. The manufacturing sector contributed 17.9% to GDP and 15.3 % to GNP and showed a growth of 6.96 % in 1997-98. The maximum growth i.e. 8.4 % was seen in the medium scale industry. The industrial sector consumes 16% of the total oil consumption (23.14 million TOE) and generates approx. 285 tonne CO, 162 tonne NOx , 378 tonne SOx and 4,400 tone particulate matter. Little information is available on emission of non-conventional toxic pollutants such as cadmium, mercury, PCBs and other persistent organic pollutants, which have tendency of accumulation of human body.

Air is a need of humans for breathing and sustaining their lives. The particulate matter, organic and inorganic pollutants found unhealthy and hazardous according to EPA Pakistan standards, in the different cities of Pakistan like Lahore, Quetta, Gujranwala, Peshawar, Islamabad, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad. These have great impacts on the plants as well as human life and ultimately deteriorating food chain. To use the air for respiration needs, there are some standards beyond them; the air quality is not recommended for use because the many types of chemicals (heavy metals, organic compounds, Aerosols, Greenhouse gasses), microbes (pathogens) and all harmful agents can cause serious problems in human body which are discussed here in this review. To maintain these air quality standards, there are many regulatory bodies like EPA's in almost all countries, WHO standards etc. Human activities of development like industrialization, agriculture, motorvehicles etc. has alleviated the standards from their permissible limits owing to excessive use of fossil fuels, roadside traffic load, fertilizers, pesticides, and harmful industrial pollutants which join ambient air by exhaust from burning or exploiting, when this contaminated air is used for breathing purposes, it causes severe problems. This problem is faced by many industrial countries. Pakistan is one of them whose citizens are severely affected by different harmful airborne diseases like asthma, lung cancer etc.

Major Environmental Issues of Pakistan

Pakistan encompasses a wide spectrum of climatic zones, giving rise to a diverse range of climate change impacts. The influence of human activities, coupled with evolving hydrology and land use patterns, exerts a profound influence on both food grain production and the resilience of ecosystems. Among the most imperiled regions are the grasslands and mountainous forest ecosystems of the Himalayas and the ecosystems found in the Sundarbans. The forests within Pakistan, which house some of the planet's most biologically diverse ecosystems, face an existential threat due to the rapid processes of deforestation and urban expansion. Furthermore, this region bears the unfortunate distinction of being the epicenter of some of the world's worst air pollution. The Thar Desert, expanding at a rate of 100 hectares annually, poses a substantial threat, potentially encroaching upon approximately 13,000 hectares of cultivated lands and pastures in both India and Pakistan. Access to freshwater in South Asia is notably seasonal, with water supplies becoming increasingly imperiled due to rising temperatures, shifts in river dynamics, and a higher frequency of coastal flooding. This article discusses major environmental issues faced by Pakistan and the resultant problems encountered by majority of people. Major environmental issues discussed here are climate change, water pollution, air pollution, deforestation, desertification, water resources and lack of potable water, biodiversity loss, food security risks, droughts, irregular weather patterns, heatwaves, exceptional rise in temperature, water scarcity, depletion of energy resources, and degradation of river and marine resources. Some recommendations have also been provided on the basis of major environmental issues identified and resultant problems.

From DC's 'forgotten' River To The Seine, Pollution Cancels Swim Events

Washington, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 31st Jul, 2024) Pollution may have forced an Olympic triathlon postponement in the Seine, but on the banks of the Anacostia River in Washington , Dennis Chestnut is also canceling his swimming plans, thwarted by similar contamination.

Once known for half-submerged tires, floating detritus and tumor-laden catfish, the Anacostia, sometimes called the US capital's "forgotten river," has undergone a drastic transformation in recent years.

Remediation has been so profound that advocates organized what was to be the Anacostia's first legal swim in more than 50 years, after officials in 1971 banned entering the water over quality concerns.

But two attempts at the event this summer, as well as two in 2023, were ultimately canceled -- twice for high levels of E.coli or water quality issues and twice for poor weather .

The sewage-indicating bacteria is also behind Tuesday's postponement of the Olympics men's triathlon event , which along with the women 's triathlon is now going forward Wednesday. Meanwhile E.coli scuttled training events earlier in the week and could still hamper forthcoming Olympic open-water swimming.

Chestnut, who as a boy learned to swim in the Anacostia, which flows through predominantly African-American sections of the city, had been slated to jump in along with around 200 others under special permission for the one-time event .

At age 75, the Anacostia advocate remembers when he, his siblings and friends would splash along the river's banks in the 1950s and '60s, with swimming pools largely off-limits or segregated for Black Americans.

It was a more innocent time for the river, before it became synonymous with toxicity and a known dumping ground for sewage, chemical contaminants and trash.

- 'Swimmable days' -

"Every river is unique, though the Seine and the Anacostia are both impacted by E.coli, which is common among rivers in areas with older sewer infrastructure," Quinn Molner, director of operations at Anacostia Riverkeeper (ARK), the nonprofit that staged the swim event , told AFP.

French authorities had invested $1.5 billion over the last decade to clean up the Seine, including in major new water treatment and storage facilities in and around Paris .

Washington had invested in a similar multi-billion Dollar system under its Clean Rivers Project, building tunnels that substantially reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs).

The overflows occurred when untreated water including sewage flowed into Washington 's rivers during storms so as not to overwhelm treatment plants.

The new tunnels are expected to reduce the overflows in the Anacostia by 98 percent.

"We now see some locations in the Anacostia with safe levels of E. coli for swimming upward of 80 percent of the time," Quinn told AFP.

But Chestnut, who spoke to AFP from a lily pad garden on the river's edge, emphasized that "swimmable days are good, but you know, we really need it to be just generally swimmable."

- Legacy contaminants -

On hot summer days as a kid, he and friends would travel down a neighborhood tributary to the Anacostia's banks, where they would swim next to a riverside landfill.

The landfill "definitely contributed to the pollution and the toxic pollutants in the river," Chestnut said.

Additionally, heavy industry and dumping along the Anacostia's banks have left a legacy of major chemical contamination that remains to this day.

Of particular concern are polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), industrial chemicals banned in the United States in 1979, which affect immune, reproductive, nervous and endocrine systems, and are likely to cause cancer -- they also bind to sediment.

But they are mostly a threat to fish and wildlife that live and forage along the river bottom.

Such chemical toxins are "present in such really tiny doses in the water column that they're not clinically significant" for swimming purposes, Trey Sherard, ARK's riverkeeper, told AFP.

As far as humans are concerned, the chemicals are a threat to those eating fish out of the river and have resulted in fish consumption advisories not only for those caught in the Anacostia but also Washington 's better-known river, the Potomac.

To such pollutants, a major Anacostia River Sediment Project was begun in 2013 with an aim of cleaning up legacy toxins in the sludge.

Despite the Anacostia's improved water quality, the long legacy of pollution, Chestnut said, dissuaded friends and family from signing up with him for the swim.

But he remains undeterred.

"I'm making it possible for them to be able to swim in the river going forward, and their children and their children's children are going to benefit from what we're doing," he said.

"Every place is not fortunate to have a natural resource like a river," Chestnut added.

انسان کو ایک سماجی جانور کہا گیا ہے۔ اس کے ارد گرد اسے ایک ماحول دے دیا گیا ہے۔ جب وہ اس ماحول کو گدلا کرے گا تو اس ماحول میں منفی رججان پیدا ہوگا جس سے انسان ، حیوان ، چرند ، پرند ، حیوانات ، نباتات اور تمام مخلوقات متاثر ہوں گی۔ یہ منفی تبدیلیاں آبی مخلوقات اور جو پانی ہم استعمال کرتے ہیں اس پر بھی اپنا گہرا اثر چھوڑتی ہیں۔ کیمیائی آلودگی مادے یا توانائی کی شکل اختیار کر سکتی ہے، جیسے شور، حرارت، روشنی اور دیگر آلودگی مل کر معاشرے میں بگاڑ پیدا کرتی ہیں۔

آلودگی کا ذریعہ

آلودگی کا اکثر نقطہ ذریعہ یا نان پوائنٹ ذریعہ آلودگی کے طور پر درجہ بندی کیا جاتا ہے۔ ۲۰۱۵ میں آلودگی نے دنیا میں ۹ لاکھ افراد کو ہلاک کیا۔

فضائی آلودگی

لکڑی اور کوئلے کے جلنے سے فضا میں ایک ناقابلِ برداشت قسم کا دھواں ہوا میں بلند ہو کر ہوا کو آلودہ بنانے کا ذریعہ بنتا ہے۔ صنعتوں کے نئے نئے کیمیائی تجربات سے اور ان کے رف استعمال سے ماحول میں ہوا کی آلودگی بڑھتی ہے۔

انہی فیکٹریوں سے نکلنے والے ، ضائع ہونے والے مواد کو نہروں میں چھوڑ دیا جاتا ہے جس سے ہوا تو آلودہ ہو ہی رہی تھی پانی بھی آلودہ ہونے لگتا ہے۔ آبی آلودگی سے نہ صرف آبی مخلوق بلکہ انسان بھی متاثر ہوتے ہیں۔ صنعتی انقلاب سے ہی ماحول آلودگی کی اس نہج پر پہنچ گیا ہے کہ اب موسم جلدی اپنی مدت پوری کرنے لگے ہیں۔

زمینی آلودگی

زمین پر پلاسٹک کے بے جا استعمال اور بے رحمی سے اسے ادھر ادھر پھینک دینے سے پلاسٹک کی بوتلیں، شاپنگ بیگ جنگلات کی زندگی ، جنگلی مخلوق اور انسانوں کو بری طرح متاثر کر رہی ہیں۔ پلاسٹک سستا اور پائے دار ہے اور اس کے نتیجے میں انسانوں کے استعمال کے مطابقت سے اس کی پیداوار بھی زیادہ ہے۔

پلاسٹک سے زمینی ،آبی اور سمندری مخلوق متاثر ہوتی ہے۔ ایک اندازے کے مطابق ہر سال ساحلی برادریوں کی جانب سے ۱.۱ سے ۸.۸ ملین ٹن پلاسٹک کا فضلہ سمندر میں داخل ہوتا ہے۔

زندہ حیاتیات ، خاص طور پر سمندری جانوروں کو یا تو میکانکی اثرات ، جیسے پلاسٹک کی چیزوں میں الجھنا ، پلاسٹک کے کچرے کے گھماؤ سے متعلق مسائل ، یا پلاسٹک کے اندر کیمیائی مادے کے ذریعے نقصان پہنچایا جاسکتا ہے۔

پیٹرولیم ہائیڈروکاربن ، پولیونکئرل ارومائٹ ہائڈروکاربن ، سالوینٹس ، کیڑے مار دوا ، سیسہ اور دیگر بھاری دھاتیں۔ آلودگی کا تعلق صنعت کی ڈگری اور کیمیائی مادے کی شدت سے ہے۔ مٹی کی آلودگی پر تشویش بنیادی طور پر صحت کے خطرات ، آلودہ مٹی سے براہ راست رابطے، آلودگیوں سے بخارات ، یا مٹی کے اندر کی ثانوی آلودگی سے ہوتی ہے۔ زمینی آلودگی سے موسم میں غیر معمولی تبدیلی آئی ہے جس سے خطرہ بڑھ گیا ہے اگر ایسے ہی چلتا رہا تو ہماری نیلی نیلی نظر آنے والی زمین چند برسوں میں بہت سی تباہیوں سے دوچار ہوجائے گی۔
