Personal Statement - Korean

Korean personal statement.

Different cultures and languages have always fascinated me; picking up travel guides and phrase books whenever I went on holiday abroad as a child became almost a necessity for me. I believe that an understanding of different cultures is vital in today’s globalised world. And Korea is markedly different from the rest of the world: its culture and language are a few of its intriguing idiosyncrasies. These differences are what sparked my interest in Korea and desire to study Korean at university level.

In 2008 I attended the Korean Music Festival in Los Angels. This contributed a lot to my growing interest in Korea. It was a very rewarding experience because I was able to witness both acclaimed trot (the oldest form of Korean pop music) singers and emerging artists perform on the same stage to a diverse audience. The influence of Korean popular culture is impossible to ignore. Korean cinema has gained international recognition in recent years, with Hollywood remakes of Korean films becoming increasingly ubiquitous.

I have been participating in online Korean language lessons for six months now. I intend to volunteer in South Korea for three weeks in July and I am looking forward to putting language skills I have acquired into practice in addition to experiencing life in South Korea.

In addition, Korean history and politics is also something I am interested in. Reading “The Memoirs of Lady Hyegyong” provided me with unique insight of 18th century South Korean politics and society, particularly as it is one of the few autobiographies written by a woman in the world from that period. This led me to develop and interest in contemporary Korean politics. The situation between the divided Koreas tends to dominate the international news. Barabara Demick’s “Nothing to Envy” was an interesting read as it reveals personal stories of North Koreans, most of whom live in abject poverty and are mostly ignored by the media. The dire economic situation in North Korea raises an interesting question: would reunification be economically viable? It is likely to be more detrimental than beneficial to South Korea and, as the collapse of North Korea is largely considered to be inevitable, it does not surprise me that President Lee Myungbak has proposed a reunification tax.

The subjects I am currently studying have equipped me with skills that will be useful at university. As they largely require writing essays I have improved my ability to write coherently. Philosophy and history in particular have instilled in me the ability to think critically and independently.

My main hobby is working with computer programming, style sheet languages and markup languages. I have experience working with Cascading Stylesheets (CSS) and JavaScript. I created and maintain the website my father uses to advertise his business. I believe that this has facilitated my ability to cope with a degree in Korean because, like natural languages such as Korean, computer languages require diligence and building on previous knowledge and being able to retain it and adapt it to different sitiuations.

Universities Applied to:

  • SOAS (BA Korean - Offer (AABBB, Scottish Highers) Firm

Grades Achieved:

  • English (Higher) - A
  • Philosophy (Higher) - A
  • Geography (Higher) - A
  • History (Higher) - A
  • Economics (Higher) - A

I didn't apply to Sheffield because the year I applied was the one year they were asking Scottish applicants for Advanced Highers, and I didn't want to spend another year at my FE college just for what was originally going to be my insurance choice. I also decided to apply for straight Korean, mainly because I thought integrating another subject (Japanese or Arch & Anth) would have been too difficult. Plus, English universities overwhelmingly require Scottish students to have at least three Advanced Highers and most of the courses that interested me were in England. Life is like that sometimes.

Comments on the statement:

In the end, I never did volunteer before my course started. Not my best piece of writing - I wrote this statement in September 2010, which was actually after my college's deadline. I ended up taking a gap year, so I didn't start my course until September 2012. Just a few examples of how you can weave pretty irrelevant things into your statement. I didn't see any statements for straight Korean up.

How to apply to study in South Korea

Thinking of studying in Seoul, Suwon or Gwangju? From documents to deadlines, we can tell you all you need to know about completing a South Korea university application.

Many students walk and take photos in an ornate circular garden strewn with cherry blossoms at Kyung Hee University in South Korea

After deciding to study in South Korea, one of your next steps is to start putting together and submitting your application. Knowing what you need to do and when is crucial, with the golden rule for international students being to always get prepared and apply as early as possible. Of course, the process differs around the world, so this can seem complicated. Don't fear, though: we can show you when and how to complete your South Korea university application.

How do I apply to a university in South Korea?

Almost every university in the country will require you to apply directly through an online system, just like South Korean students do. Make sure to check your prospective institution’s website for more information.

If you are concerned that language could be an issue, you shouldn't have to worry too much. English-taught programmes in South Korea are expanding rapidly, so not being able speak Korean will not be a barrier to application or admission. Nonetheless, we recommend reaching a certain level of understanding, if only for your comfort and ability to settle in the country.

Some of the top universities in South Korea that offer courses taught in English include the following:

Seoul National University (41st, QS World University Rankings 2024 )

Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) (56th)

Korea University (79th)

Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) (100th)

What documents will I need to apply?

It’s very important when making an application to any university that you have the right documents. When applying to study in South Korea you will typically need the following:

Your passport

Previous academic transcript or certificate (e.g. bachelor's degree or high school diploma)

Proof of proficiency in either the Korean or English language , depending on the programme to which you are applying

Letter of recommendation and a counsellor reference

Any other materials required by the university, which can often include a personal statement .

Eventually, you will also need a visa to study in South Korea. However, you are only eligible for one of these once you are accepted by a university. Nevertheless, it is something worth thinking about in advance. Read our guide to find out more about applying for a visa in South Korea .

When is the best time to apply to study in South Korea?

Korean universities take deadlines seriously, so don’t wait to apply. Applications are open twice a year, in advance of the country's Spring and Fall semesters. Whichever is your preferred start date, you will need to apply around six months in advance. This means September or October for a Spring start, and March or April for Fall.

You will find out if you have been successful around two to three months after applications close. Certain programmes may require language proficiency exams after acceptance onto the programme, which are usually held shortly before your course start date.

Of course, this is just a general guide. Check directly with the university to which you are applying for the exact dates, and details of any tests you may need to take. For a broader insight into how university works in the country, meanwhile, read our guide to the South Korean higher education system .

What else should I know?

Every university in Korea has its own application procedure, and so there are always other elements that may be included. It is important to look at the requirements and expectations of the ones to which you are applying directly, but the following will help give you an idea of what you may find.

Application fees are a regular feature of South Korea university applications. They are usually set between SEK 65,000 and SEK 130,000 (around USD 50 to USD 100). This will typically be charged when you submit your application, and is often non-refundable.

Certain universities, such as Korea University, require some applicants to some of their courses to take part in an admissions interview. This should hopefully be less intimidating than it may sound, but it may well not be needed for your course. If it is, you can get ready with our advice on how to prepare for an admissions interview .

Where you are going to live is an important consideration, but not one you should need to make immediately. Universities will usually not allow you to apply for their housing until you have been offered a place on one of their courses. Before then, you can prepare yourself with our guide to student accommodation in South Korea .

Tips for applying to study in South Korea

Although we can’t guarantee that you’ll be accepted, we do have some top tips on how to apply to a university in South Korea:

  • Start organising your documents now. If you know you want to study abroad, you’ll need documents such as a passport no matter where you go. So, you won’t want to wait until the last minute to get them in order. You’d be surprised by how many applicants have to delay their studies due to their passport nearing expiry.

Get in contact with the international office at your chosen university. If you have any questions, they will be able to help you.

Be aware of deadlines. Like we said before, deadlines are a big deal in South Korea. Make sure to get everything in before the application period ends.

Apply to more than one university. This will increase your chances of acceptance and give you more choices.

Now that you are in the know, we wish you the best of luck with your South Korea university application. However, we couldn’t leave you without more tips and information. Check out our study abroad preparation guide and find out more about what makes studying in South Korea a great option for international students.

The South Korean higher education system explained

Home to K-pop, successful multinational tech firms and one of the highest-educated workforces in the world, South Korea has become increasingly popular among international students.   South Korea had no more than 85,000 international students in 2014, but this number has grown by 2.5 times in less than ten years. How to write your personal statement and SOP for GKS-Graduate Scholarship. Tips for interview!!

  January 21, 2024

By   Smriti Ekka

Writing an effective Statement of Purpose or Personal Statement is a frequently asked question among the students who apply for a GKS Scholarship for the first time. The main purpose of this article is to help you write such a statement.

So today I have mentioned some points that I have broken down into small segments which will be easy for you to understand how to write your own personal statement and statement of purpose. ALSO some tips for the interview that will make you sound more promising while applying for the GKS 2022 scholarship for Masters and PhD in Korea.

To check the GKS Field of study and guidelines click HERE !!

PERSONAL STATEMENT

Like the word suggests. The student should write his/her experiences, achievements, values. The reasons to study abroad and apply for the scholarship might not be so unique, thus, the way it is written should be impactful.

Personal Statement

The following key question can be formed and written in a way that would sound promising and you can include the following questions like :

  • Why did you decide to go to graduate school ?
  • Why you chose Korea and what you can do in Korea after your graduation ?
  • How GKS benefit in your field of study ?

Things should be mentioned in detail. Analysis on all those parts can further be broken down into small segments for easy evaluation and understanding.

  • The first part can be very idealistic.
  • Second part should be practical.
  • Third part can include all the summary of what you have mentioned above.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

A real Statement of Purpose shows that you have thought through why you are doing the course, rather than exclaiming a wish to be one day employed. Even if you have fully considered your reasons for undertaking further study, it is not uncommon to feel a certain self-consciousness about writing about them.

Statement of purpose definitely contains your goal of study. Statement of purpose definitely contains your goal of study.

SOP

  • The first part could be started with a quote. That's done by most of the people. Followed by explaining what you'll do in " that " specific University !!

The answer shouldn't be like " You wish to study with that professor." Those types of answers are always along the line. But  your answer should be more promising like, how you will be generating more knowledge together. With the help of such a good facility how will you be able to contribute and take advantage of such opportunities given to you.

You can explain how being able to get such knowledge you can help others and expand your field of study and contribute much more.

  • The second part of it can include the research interest. How is it going to help you in your field of interest?

Since Korea is among the top 5 OECD countries that spend most on research & development studies constituting 4.46 percent of South Korea's GDP. Hence a lot of the students around the globe are interested to study in Korea because of the facilities/benefits provided which includes

  • Monthly allowance
  • Two way air fare
  • Monthly allowance which will be enough for you to survive in Korea.

See Also : Things to prepare for GKS Scholarship 2021

With all these facilities they want you to focus solely on the research and provide the best result afterwards. Your focus should be to fully invest your time in the research and make use of the guidance by being under the professor of your department.

  • The third part could be the research topic. After the research topic you need to explain about the research topic
  • You can include why you have the necessary aptitude to succeed in GKS ?

Things that will ultimately make you stand out from the rest of the students after you have completed your graduation. You have to convince and prove your worth and give that commitment to the professors in writing what you will ultimately be providing them in the end.

To stand out from the rest of the students if you have already done some studies in your field or have published some papers already or doing some work in some specific areas. Chances are that your worth could be easily measured looking at those results.

In the future plan. You can break it down into two parts:-

  • Long term goals and short term goals.

In long term goals you can write keeping in mind about the next five years and short term could be what you can achieve in the coming few months maybe.

For the short term you can mention how KGSP will help you in achieving those dreams. It shouldn't include what you want to do after kgsp BUT how can KGSP help you to achieve those goals of yours !!

There's a difference between the two and mentioning the latter can increase your chance immensely !! You can also list down the goals down below which should be closely linked to your graduate studies.

For the long term goals you can also mention in detail about how long you'll be staying in Korea and what will be your field of study after graduation and then probably going back to your country, you will continue working in the field of yours.

Eventually you have to mention how the KGSP is going to help you to achieve those long-term goals of yours.

You can easily write about your long term goals by adjusting what you have already mentioned in the short term goals and try to add two or three points in it to make it sound appropriate . It shouldn't be lengthy. Just explaining two or three points would be enough.

It is actually mentioned that you have to score TOPIK 3 and above to give you an extra 10 points while selection. BUT as long as you have something that makes you stand out from the rest of the students that would be enough for you to get into any university. For example fluency in Korean, research skill or entrepreneur skills.

Tips for the Interview !!

Mainly the interview is very nerve wracking and people are very nervous before giving the interview keeping in mind that it's for the research and professors may ask you questions regarding your field of knowledge and you should be thoroughly prepared for it.

  • Questions linked to your major.
  • Questions related to the documents that you have provided.
  • Question can also be a close link to why you have chosen that particular University auditor field of study and why Korea was your destination for studies.

Confidence is the key and how you articulate your thinking well enough for the professors and teachers to pick you from the crowd.

The key point would be to emphasize on the things that you are actually good at and make it your key point.

The best suggestion I will give you is to prepare something in Korean even if you don't speak it properly.

Having some knowledge of Korean will always give you that " extra edge" even if you are preparing to go to Korea in general.  Not to mention it is highly appreciated if you're doing any kind of studies in Korea.

They might ask you to introduce yourself in Korean so prepare small sentences that you would be confident in.

Since you are applying to learn and improve your abilities, it is important to make that goal clear in the statement of purpose.

Those were the few points that would be helpful in writing your personal statement and statement of purpose. Hope you found this article helpful. Please write your doubts below if you have any.

Thank you !!

Why You Should Choose Seoul National University

How You Can Get Admitted to Seoul National University

Being born into a family where my father and two older male siblings are very successful businessmen has been one of my two greatest motivations. The second is learning about visionary men like Azim Premji, who transformed his father’s million dollars worth of a company into one worth multi-billion dollars. I strongly believe that keeping a positive and innovative mindset like Azim Premji can allow me to take my family business to an enviable height. With this mindset serving as my major drive, upon completing my Junior Secondary School, I joined the commercial class in senior secondary school with strong backing from my father. During my senior secondary school days, subjects such as commerce, accounting, mathematics, and economics were my most cherished subjects.

To get closer to my dream, I completed my Bachelor of Science degree programme in Business Administration at the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, in 2015. During my studies, course modules like trade and commerce, financial management, and human resource management piqued my attention in the discipline of Business Administration. The desire to build an efficient human resource and acquire a deeper exposure to business proficiency became my major drive to apply for an MBA programme at Seoul National University.

During my undergraduate studies at the University of Ilorin, I was part of a project group tasked to present a term paper on the challenges of confounding African start-ups. With my level of enthusiasm and passion, I was appointed the group leader of my team. Having carefully assessed the strengths and weaknesses of my team members, I was able to coordinate members to work on certain areas of the term paper based on their capacity. In the end, we carried out comprehensive research centered around the challenges of African start-ups while also offering possible solutions to the challenges. Our term paper was adjudged to be the best by the lecturer in charge, and our manner of presentation also saw us earn very high marks in our continuous assessment test for the semester.

Upon completing my Bachelor’s degree programme at the University of Ilorin, rather than joining my father’s company, I decided I would take on the experience of a new and neutral environment. With this in mind, I joined a soap manufacturing company in my country as a branch manager. During my time at the company, my problem-solving, sales generation, and customer relation capacity were tested. A commendable performance review at the end of each business quarter proved that I had been able to apply my academic and practical experiences to solve real-life issues. Within the period of my application for the MBA programme at Seoul National University, I am undertaking the SAS Visual Business Analytics on Coursera to prepare me for the rigorous academic exposure ahead.

However, my choice of South Korea is down to my deep attraction to the vibrant Korean culture. While my country, Nigeria, and South Korea may share economic relations, the fact that South Korea has acquired fascinating economic growth that has continued to make it a world beater will allow me to understand the Korean economy more closely. Korea is also the destination for modern technological advancement; no wonder companies like Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have continued to dominate the world’s gadget space.  Learning that the country also offers a revolutionalized health sector that has made it the hub of easy access to quality and affordable health care makes it an alluring prospect. Upon close inspection, I discovered that the country now possesses high-tech medical diversification in Osong and Daegu, making it a frontrunner in the world’s bio-industry space.

My reason for choosing Seoul National University is also down to a few justifications. To begin with, the Seoul National University is among some of the world’s top 30 universities despite not belonging to a core English-speaking state. In addition, the MBA programme gives international students the chance to link up with many successful alumni members of the school to share ideas and impactful strategies. Owing to its world-class status, studying at Seoul National University will allow me to possess a degree of international standard that will stand me toe to toe with many of the business industries’ best heads.

Overall, I strongly believe that upon completing the one-year MBA programme at Seoul National University, I’ll get the chance to improve on standards set by the business-driven minds in my family and also help take some of the family businesses to a much greater level. I believe that my problem-solving skills, academic and practical exposure, and insatiable drive to bring about innovative change will allow me to cope easily with the challenges of studying in Asia’s most admired university.

How to choose a university

If you have been eyeing Korean education for a long time, then you most likely know about SKY , the top three universities in South Korea. However, we do not recommend applying only to these schools — they are highly competitive, and there are other good universities in the country. To begin the process, you must decide on your purpose for studying and desired field. Of the additional criteria, we recommend paying attention to:

  • Ratings. There are more than 200 universities in South Korea, ten of which are in the top 500 best universities in the world according to THE . For example, Seoul National University is in 54th place, and KAIST is in 99th place. Once again, you should not rely only on prestige. If your goal is to get a high-quality education that is in demand, focus on ratings in specific fields. More so, evaluate the curriculum, workload, and the availability of internships in large companies.
  • Prices. Education in South Korea costs money for both citizens of the country and foreigners. The price is the same for everyone. However, the minimum tuition fee can be different and depends on the university. For example, at Gyeongbuk University, prices start at 4,000  USD /year, and at Korea University — from 8,000  USD /year.
  • Language. Knowledge of Korean is optional. About 30% of programs in South Korea are in English. When submitting documents, foreign students must confirm their proficiency in the chosen language of study. For English, you need to pass the TOEFL or IELTS exam, for Korean — TOPIK (Test of Proficiency in Korean).

How to apply for a doctorate program

  • Independent programs . Three years of study, two of which are devoted to grasping the curriculum (36 credits). You can apply for such a program with a master's degree in a related field.
  • Integrated PhD. A bachelor's degree is enough here. The duration of this program is four years of study, and at least 60 credits are required.

Upon admission, the following is taken into account:

  • Average score of the diploma (at least a 3.0 GPA)
  • Publications
  • Research proposal
  • Resume, as well as knowledge of foreign languages (depending on the program, it can be Japanese , English , Korean , French , and others)

First, fill out an application on the website of the university. Here, you will need to write a motivation letter and draw up a study plan. Attach language certificates along with the rest of the documents.

At some universities, you need to choose a research topic and form an agreement with a supervisor in advance, even before the interview with the admissions committee.

  • Master's degree and grade transcript with a translation
  • Motivation letter with a summary of the study plan

Scholarships and grants

The largest scholarship is the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), which is issued by the South Korean government. It fully covers the student's expenses for flights, accommodation, tuition, medical insurance, study materials, and other needs. The program also includes a year of language courses before the start of the main course.

The main selection criteria are: age (up to 25 and 40, respectively) and grade point average. Applications for the GKS are accepted by Korean embassies in the participating countries of the program and universities accredited by the National Institute for International Education.

There is also a scholarship program for self-financed undergraduate students. Students who have studied at a Korean college/university for at least two semesters and demonstrate a level 4 language proficiency according to the TOPIK results can apply [2] . Every year, the Korean government selects 200 students who receive scholarships for 12 months.

Many universities provide a discount of 30-100% of the tuition fee to foreign applicants with a high academic performance [3] .

Student visas to South Korea

Student visas to Korea can be of two types:

  • Overseas Study (D-2) . A long-term visa for undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral studies, as well as participation in research projects at colleges, universities, and professional schools.
  • General training (D-4) . A short-stay visa for university-based language courses or other studies in organizations that do not fall under the first category.

To obtain a D-2 visa, you must prepare the following documents:

  • Passport valid for the entire course of study
  • Completed visa application form
  • Registration fee payment of 50  USD for a single entry or 80  USD for multiple entries into the country
  • Confirmation of admission to the university
  • Copy of the previous diploma (translated into the language of instruction and notarized)
  • Proof of financial solvency

The latter may be in the form of a bank statement (no less than 8,897  USD ) or proof of a grant/scholarship/third party financial support. The above list of documents is not always final, in some cases additional documents are required.

The D-2 visa is initially issued for up to two years, and is then extended. Engineering students can apply for the D-2-7 category, which allows international students to stay in South Korea after graduation to look for work.

Within 90 days after arrival in the country, the student must visit the regional migration office to receive an Alien Registration Card, the cost of which is 7  USD . Additionally, you will need to purchase insurance (16  USD /month), which provides access to all medical institutions in South Korea.

How to Write a Self Introduction for University in Korea

  • July 7, 2022

When you are applying to a university in Korea, you will soon find that you need to include a self-introduction letter and study plan in your application. For some, a self-introduction letter may sound self-explanatory. However, in Korea, these letters need to contain certain information, so be sure to read this article before submitting your applications!

University Applications in Korea

personal statement for korean university

Those who are applying to a university program in Korea for the first time normally need to prepare a self-introduction letter. These can be undergraduate students, graduate school students, and those switching into a regular program after attending language school.

In my experience, if you wish to apply to a program that is in English, the process is often different. Not every university will require a self-introduction letter for programs taught in English. Instead, they may require an interview and a valid English proficiency certificate.

However, if you are applying to a regular program at a Korean university that is taught in Korean, you will need to submit a self-introduction letter. And often, more competitive English programs will require them as well.

Writing a Self-Introduction Letter

personal statement for korean university

University-Specific Format and Questions

Each school has a different question form for 자기소개서 (self-introduction) and 학습계획서 (study plan). Therefore, you need to find the specific format you will need to write in and the question you need to answer for each university you apply to. This can normally be found on the website, or with a Naver search. After you know the requirements of the university, you can begin writing your Self Introduction.

Self-introduction: Basic Information

Normally you should begin by presenting basic information about yourself. At a minimum, you should include your name, age, and hometown. It is also not uncommon to include information about your family, such as the number of siblings you have and what your parents do for work. However, the requirement to include family information has been a topic of controversy recently. As a result, many schools no longer require you to reveal details about your family history.

Self-introduction: Achievements and Experience

personal statement for korean university

Next, you should discuss academic achievements. You can include anything of importance from high school, language schools, university, and graduate school. In particular, if you were outstanding in any subjects, got any awards, or participated in activities you should mention them in this section.

If you have any work experience, that should also be included. However, you will only want to include experiences that you can explain as being relevant to your field of study. Or, that demonstrates you are proficient in Korean. For example; simply stating you worked in a restaurant as a server will not be looked at favorably. However, if you worked as a server and spoke to customers in Korean, or are applying to major in hospitality or business you can highlight the relevance of the experience.

Self-introduction: Personality and Values

In this section, you need to give administrators a sense of who you are as a person. You need to answer the question; “What was remarkable about your process of growing up that affected your personality and values?”.

It is important to note that, unlike university applications in some western countries, this is not the main focus of your self-introduction letter. In addition, universities in Korea tend to lean socially conservative. With that in mind, this section should not be as deep as a letter you would typically write for a western university.

Self-introduction: Strengths and Talents

personal statement for korean university

Now, this section is where many of us foreigners have the upper hand. It’s time to brag about your foreign language skills! Plus, you should mention any other strengths or talents related to your field of study. These can be soft skills like communication, being a fast learner, or being culturally conscious. Or, they can be hard skills like coding, writing, or photo editing.

Self-introduction: Why Us?

In this part of your letter, you will need to explain why you chose the university and the major you are applying for. It is a good idea to do some research on the university and cite a few specific reasons why you prefer them over other places.

Self-introduction: Plans

Finally, we come to the most important section of your self-introduction letter. First, you should explain your study plan for the entire duration of your degree. You want to be as detailed as possible. This means you should go through the list of courses in your major and include classes you want to take, if you plan to have an internship, and what your plans for research topics are.

Then, you should explain your plans for after you graduate. As a foreigner, it is best to emphasize international cooperation and contributing to the development of both Korea and your home country.

personal statement for korean university

I know, it’s a lot to include in a limited self-introduction letter, right? The most important thing to focus on is presenting information concisely and truthfully. If you do that, the interviewer will be able to understand your application and see if you are suitable for the school and the field of study. I wish you success in writing and getting into your dream university in Korea!

What is the GKS Scholarship?

GKS which stands for Global Korean Scholarship is also known as The Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP). This is an academic scholarship program funded by the Korean Government for International Students and this is managed by the NIIED – National Institute of International Education which is under the Ministry of Education in South Korea. This program was designed for non-Korean scholars and Overseas Korean People to invite them to study in South Korea through a fully funded scholarship program at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels, after completing one year of Korean language studies. This was started a long time back in 1967 to bring overseas talents to South Korea and introduce them to the Korean languages, culture, and environment. Undergraduate students are entitled to receive 800,000 KRW per month and postgraduate students are entitled to 1,000,000 KRW per month apart from other expenses like airfares, tuition, and other allowances.

How to apply for the GKS Scholarship in 2024?

The basic objective of the GKS or KGSP Scholarship program is to invite international talent in Korea and let them study in Korea and their talent can contribute towards growth and development in the country.  While applying for the scholarship, the candidate has to decide on a study program for which they are applying to any of the Korean universities that are entitled to GKS. The chosen program can not be changed later if the candidate wishes to change the program after studying Korean Language for the first year. For undergraduate degree programs at Korean Universities, it requires studying for 4 years, for master’s programs the duration is two years and doctoral studies require a minimum of 3 years.

Below is the sample personal statement for global korea scholarship south korea.

The National Liberation Day of South Korea and the Independence Day of India are a common tie between the two emerging nations as they celebrate these two events on the 15th of August. No wonder Rabindranath Tagore had called South Korea, the ‘Lamp of the East’, showcasing its noteworthy advancement in technology as the rest of the world is enlightened using products of the companies based in South Korea. This is profound in most Indian households. I remember clearly how each time I saw an advertisement for LG refrigerators and Samsung mobile phones, I jumped as these were the products that we used at home. As a child’s curiosity would have it upon finding similarities, I was always excited. In 9th grade, this excitement transformed into curiosity when my teacher informed me how South Korea is the core where reliable technology and ergonomic products are manufactured. My teacher also informed me about how South Korea invests in education so its citizens remain at the forefront of advanced technology. After listening to this, I could connect the dots, and it wasn’t a wonder that such wonderful easy-to-use products are made in South Korea. Not just expensive products, even trivial daily use products have their origin designed in South Korea, reflecting how people are scrupulous in designing. From here, my quest to perceive the exponential growth taking place in South Korea began.

In New Delhi, the capital of India, I visited the Korean Cultural Centre which displayed the beautiful culture, language, and clothes of the people of South Korea. Immediately post this visit, I started looking for opportunities to learn more about South Korea and I embarked on this learning path by beginning to learn the language. While learning the language at SEJONG HAKDANG (KCCI) I received a 100% scholarship for the Intermediate semester for being in the top 10% of students in the beginner semester, which encouraged me more towards this stream.I started participating in essays and quiz competitions organized by the Korean Embassy in India. I also participated in Korea-India 2021 quiz competition where I qualified at the school level and participated in the state prelims quiz (KIFQ-DEL-226). Such platforms helped me learn about South Korea’s clothing and fashion, food, housing, festivals and celebrations, culture and arts, history, and the country’s remarkable growth at an exponential rate through its strong education system. During my participation in the quiz, I also encouraged my fellow students to participate as it gives me pleasure to share knowledge with my friends and also elevate my level of education. My participation naturally made me focus on South Korea’s accomplishments, development, and high-ranking universities. This motivated me to opt for my higher studies in South Korea.

The efficacy of education was invariably known to me and my deep-rooted interest in the same stems from observing my mother. A public school teacher, my mother taught Maths, and I under her umbrella, not only gained dexterity in the subject, but also admiration for logical thinking. My family plays an important role in bringing me to this juncture where I can apply for my Bachelor’s in Computer Science Engineering. Witnessing my elder sister’s dedication who acquired a merit-based scholarship at a renowned University in the US and my father’s diligence to bring his children to a platform where they can choose their path, has been extremely stimulating and inspiring. The current student loan that my sister has taken for her further education will be able to help her secure a good position post the MS course and I want to follow the same path so I can help my father who works at a stationery shop be at ease. Owing to my family’s financial condition, my parents have constantly provided the luxury of a good education and that is the only thing I have to fall back on.  Hence, during my school, I was a vigilant student who scored well throughout her schooling, while also learning beyond the scope of my syllabi. I have been a consistent holder of merit certificates for academic achievements since 7th grade and secured 1st position in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade while also scoring highest in Computer Science and Math in my entire batch. I often enjoyed reading my sister’s computer Science books as I felt hinged to logical and analytical thinking. My first learning of Computer Science was in grade 9th when I learned HTML. Along with this I also learned ways to create a website where I optimally used my creative abilities, especially in coding.   In class 11th, I unraveled topics like data types and operators, conditional statements, data structures like lists, tuples, strings, and dictionaries, sorting algorithms, functions, libraries, data file handling, error and exception handling, data visualization using pylot, data representation, and boolean logic. I also learned Database concepts and Structured Query Language, along with interface Python with SQL and cyber safety. Python-SQL connectivity became the target concept for my A+ grade year-end project ”result analysis” where I created tables in SQL and modules in Python.

I also made an Art Integrated Learning Project, to find hotels that suit the tourists’ requirements using the concepts of Data Structures and functions. Alongside these, I have opted to learn through online mediums and have attained relevant learning of various computer science-related subjects.  To enhance my personality, I participated in activities like Inter and intra-school Debate, art, and quiz competitions that evoked competitiveness in me. I have also exercised my leadership skills as I was the Executive of the student council where I  maintained the decorum of the school and also partook in activities like organizing quizzes and managing cultural and sports events. I have also been a member of the interact club where I have practiced and learned the importance of community service. Sports have also been a cardinal part of me and I have enjoyed playing badminton and basketball in which I won 1st position at the zonal level competition which enhanced my focus and made me humble as a person.

The various exposures that I have attained so far have empowered me to choose GKS for my future studies. It ranks at the top of OECD countries for scholastic achievement and educational competitiveness while also ranking 1st for  ICT (Information and Communications Technologies).  It will be a great step to be a part of GKS and understand more about South Korea in terms of culture and of course the emphasis it lays on education. I will be able to perform well as a student and will make my country proud as moving there for education is a reflection of the friendship between my country and South Korea .

Embassy Track (800) + University Track (1400) = Total (2,200)

The GKS Scholarship for this year 2024 has been announced by the Korean Government and they have invited 2200 International Students, for which students can apply through two tracks – Embassy Track and University Track, for which you need to read the whole to understand the same in detail.

General IRT Overseas Korean Sub Total
737 44 19 800
General R-GKS IRT* R&D Research Global Network Sub Total
368 627 10 300 15 80 1,400

The Global Korean Scholarship is one of the most prestigious scholarships in Asia and the most sought-after South Korean Scholarship among international students which can be applied through two tracks – Embassy Track and University Track, where the difference lies in the application process. The Embassy Track has three steps – you have to apply through the Korean Embassy where the application is selected and then forwarded to NIIED for further selection and then finally it reaches the university for final vetting of the applicants. You can select three universities from the Embassy track which is a better option overall and the quota allotted to the embassy track is 800.

Embassy Track = 3-Step Process,

Embassy Selection > NIIED Selection > University Selection

Options to choose 3 universities

University Track, on the other hand, is quite simple, and once the university selects the candidates it sends the application to NIIED for final selection, which is a simple two-step process. The total quota allotted to University Track is 1400 which is quite higher than the Embassy Track.

University Track = 2 Step Process

University Selection > NIIED Selection

A Journey to KGSP/GKS: Personal Statement

Finally, here is my third post on A Journey to KGSP/GKS Series. Previously, I wrote about my experience in preparing for the KGSP/GKS application back in 2016 and just before this post I wrote about how to fill in the KGSP/GKS Application Forms . This time, I’ll be sharing my two cents on how to write a Personal Statement, one of the essays of the GKS Application. When I prepared my application, it took me around 3 months to finish writing both essays. I remember starting to write as soon as I decided to apply for the scholarship in November, putting it off for a month or so, coming back and forth for the revisions, and finishing it a few days before the application closing date.

The GKS application forms have included the essay template with instructions and points to include which I found very helpful. I always enjoy writing, but writing an essay in English for studies back then was especially hard because English isn’t my first language and I never learned writing academic English properly. Here are some tips that I did and I wish I had known when writing my essays for the GKS Application.

Personal Statement template (2021 GKS Application)

First, find your application’s identity. “Why do I want to study in Korea and apply for this program? Why should the reviewer choose me among hundreds of applicants?” These questions are the ones that I kept coming back when writing my Personal Statement. As I kept digging the reasons, I somehow found the identity of my application, a statement that will clearly describe me and hopefully will leave an impression for the reviewers.

I see Personal Statement as a stage to promote myself. It tells a story about me, my personal values, and significant events that happened in my life which lead me to aspire to study in Korea and apply for the GKS. The goal is to convey my story in the most impactful way possible that no matter how ordinary it is, the reviewer will still remember me after reading other hundreds of similar or even better stories. To do this, I don’t think I can merely rely on a list of achievements and experiences I have because they probably aren’t so outstanding among other applicants. That is why I need to put an identity into my application, to make my story stronger than my own name.

In my case, “an applicant majoring in Family Studies” is the identity that I highlighted. Given that Family Studies is not a common field of study especially in Indonesia, regardless of how important it is for our society (don’t get me started into Family Sciences 101. Lol.), I guess it was the strongest point of my application that granted me a seat for an interview in the Korean Embassy. I could be wrong, but the interviewers asked about it during the whole interview session.

Second, make your essay hook. If you put yourself in the reviewer’s shoes who has to deal with a hundred applications, how will you sort it out? There are sure other considering points such as grades that are quite easy to determine. But, when it comes to essays, how will you rate it and choose from a pool of applicants? Just like its name, a Personal Statement should be personal yet interesting. Personal; it tells who the applicant is, his/her experiences, achievements, values. Interesting; no matter how different every applicant’s life story is, the reasons to study abroad and apply for the scholarship might not be so unique, thus, the way it is written should be fascinating and impactful. That is how an essay hook will make your application stand out and assure the reviewers that you deserve one seat until the final round.

There are many ways to write an essay hook; quotation, question, strong statement, metaphor, etc. You may try many different ways before finding the one that matches the big picture of your essay. An essay hook is aimed to attract the reader since the beginning of your essay. This is also related to the whole picture of the essay and the information in the next paragraphs. As I decided to emphasize my major in Family Studies, I open my essay with the story about my own family and what values I was grown up with. I also wrote about how people used to ask what my major is about and whether it really is necessary to learn about family sciences at university. I keep this point as the whole idea of my essay which helped me to explain why I had to go to a Korean university.

Third, be reflective. Reflecting is such a habit to me. You know, that tendency to lay awake in your bed and replaying what has happened that day in your head and what you could’ve done to make it better, or at least, to make yourself feel better. Well, I learn that doing it isn’t always good. But, when it comes to reflecting on your past experiences and achievements in your Personal Statement, I can never stress enough how important it is. After mentioning all your precious achievements and writing how eventful your life is, you need to explain what lessons learned that you get, what skills you learn, and how they contribute to who you are today. It might sound cliché to write about how your leadership skills have been sharpened through many organizations, but I don’t think it will do you bad to show that you have learned from your experience.

Fifth, make an outline. To me, an outline always does wonder. You might have ever practiced it for school assignments. It’s really as simple as starting from the points mentioned in the essay instruction; (1) family background, (2) latest education, (3) significant and relevant experiences (working, internship, organization, clubs), (4) motivations to study in Korea and apply for the GKS. You can write down ideas for each point and add a few sentences for the explanation. As you develop each point, you may want to write it in 1-2 paragraphs and keep it as your main idea. This will surely help your writing stay on track, lead the plot and transition from one idea/point to another without jumbling up.

Sixth, don’t expect to finish it in one night or even one-seating and then submit it on the next day. Only after giving it some time and re-reading it a few days later that you’ll notice every mistake in your essay, those misspellings-wrong tenses-wrong expressions, even if you’ve been very meticulous especially when it comes to writings. Also, I can never stress enough how you should stop yourself from editing those punctuation marks or misspellings while typing because it will put your idea on hold and take much time to finish your first draft.

Finally, ask someone to proofread your essay and give feedback. I received a lot of help from my English tutor who gave valuable feedback on my essays. Having someone read your essay sort of allows you to get through the pre-review and the nerve-wracking of the application screening process. Also, your essay will look different from someone else’s perspective so it’s important to get their feedback even if it’s as simple as word choices. Especially, because Personal Statement is an essay about ourselves, we can easily understand it but it can be hard to be objective. Your best friend will tell you some confusing parts, things that you should explain better, or simply tell whether the storytelling is interesting enough.

There are a lot more awesome tips all over the Internet on how to write a great Personal Statement essay. These are basically what I did when I wrote my own for the GKS application. I have no idea exactly which part of my application that granted me the scholarship, but I believe that the Personal Statement had its big share. For another essay, Study Plan/Statement of Purpose, you can check my post about it here .

KU application 'personal statement'

Hi! I'm currently finishing up my formal application to KU (after being nominated by my uni). I just have to do the personal statement and there is not too much information on what to write for it. It says a 'statement of purpose and goals'. Just wondering what other people are writing for that? I'm really worried about getting rejected at this stage so just confused on what I should write. Any advice is appreciated!

personal statement for korean university

What must be on my UCAS Application?

All applicants must complete all sections of the UCAS application. In addition, a personal statement which includes information supporting your suitability for the Dental course applied for and an academic reference are essential.

Those applying to our DipHE Dental Hygiene and BSc Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene programmes with BTEC or Access to Higher Education qualifications must accurately state which course they are completing or have completed (e.g. Certificate or Diploma).  The individual modules completed (and associated grades) must also be entered accurately on the application form so the admissions team can ensure the Biology content of the course is suitable.  If credits have been awarded, the qualification should be entered into the “completed” section of the UCAS form.

Applications with missing information that influences our ability to assess the suitability of your qualifications, or applications with inaccurate information, or applications with qualifications entered into the incorrect section of the UCAS form, may be rejected.  Applicants will only be contacted for clarification if time allows during the application scoring process.

Do I need to meet the English language requirements at application?

All applicants must evidence that they have met the minimum English language requirements at the point of application.

What should I include in my personal statement?

For all applicants, the personal statement should include:

  • a commitment to the dental profession applied for
  • evidence of the skills and attributes required for the dental professions
  • an understanding of the dental professions

The Personal Statement is screened for those we intend to interview, but not formally scored.

What does the School of Dentistry think of a gap year?

We welcome a constructive gap year as it gives you an opportunity to travel, gain work experience or carry out charity work etc. We recognise that a gap year can broaden your skills and experience. With the cost of living, earning money before university may also be helpful.

Does the School of Dentistry accept transfers?

Home transfers.

Dental Schools do not accept transfers of students from other schools. This is because the requirements for graduation defined by the GDC are not taught and assessed in a similar order.  Government capped places would also be disrupted by student transfers.

Schools may consider transfers for students in unforeseen exceptional circumstances with approval of both the sending and receiving programmes. In most cases the student would need to re-start from year one for the reasons described previously.

The Dental Schools Council encourages prospective students to consider the intensity of oral healthcare courses and their potential geographical distance from their support networks, when applying for dental school.

International transfers

Students from a dental school outside the UK are unable to transfer into a programme in a UK dental school. This is because international programmes follow their local regulatory requirements which are likely to differ from those in the UK.

How competitive is it to get into Dental Programmes at Cardiff University School of Dentistry?

The competition has become even more fierce over the past few years.  As well as the number of applications increasing, the proportion of applicants with excellent academic results has also increased.  Unfortunately, many excellently qualified applicants are rejected because of this competition for a set number of places.

We have had over 1500 applications each year over the last 2 years for Dentistry.   We interview approximately 280 - 300 applicants.  The number of offers following interview has varied over the last three years in an effort to reduce the risk of oversubscription and has ranged from approximately 60 - 100.   A reserve list is used.

There are around 74 places for Year 1 (including UK and Overseas).  The number of places available on the programme can change.

As part of the Selection Process, you would only receive an offer if you have had an interview.

DipHE Dental Hygiene and BSc Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene

We have had around 1000 applications each year over the last 2 years across both programmes.  The number of interviews offered can vary but has been around 240 for the last 2 years across both programmes.  The number of offers following interview has varied over the last three years in an effort to reduce the risk of oversubscription and due to different numbers of places being available.  A reserve list is used.

There are around 18 places on DipHE Dental Hygiene and 29 places on BSc Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene.  The number of places available on each programme can change.

How many Overseas places do you have?

Like most traditional Dental Schools across the UK, we have a cap on overseas places.  This means we have around 4-5 places in Year 1.

We do not currently accept Overseas fee paying students onto these programmes.

Are Welsh applicants treated differently to Rest of UK applicants?

All Dental Schools across the UK have contextualisation criteria.  Dental education in Wales is funded by Welsh Government.  There is a need to ensure that public money in Wales is spent to improve the health of the nation of Wales, in addition to the wider UK.  The School of Dentistry has responsibilities regarding widening access to dentistry and supporting the diversity of the healthcare workforce, and these are also key considerations in reviewing applications to dental school.  Given the geography and population of Wales, and the under-representation of Welsh applicants, Cardiff University School of Dentistry currently recognises Welsh-domiciled applicants as one of their contextualised groups.  Like all Dental Schools in the UK, the number of dental student placements is capped in line with the funding available.

Information on Cardiff University’s contextual admissions can be found here: www.cardiff.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/applying/contextual-data

Why do you treat contextualised applicants differently?

Having a diverse dental student population promotes a holistic, empathetic approach to patients, ensures we are selecting dentists representative of the population they will be serving, and may be more likely to work in communities similar to those they are from.

Groups of students who are under-represented at dental school are encouraged to apply. There are many groups that are under-represented.  Social mobility is improved through education.

How are applications scored?

Applicants are regarded as Welsh-domiciled, Rest of UK-non-contextualised, contextualised Rest of UK, Widening Participation (WP) or Overseas.

WP applicants who have taken part in either the Step-Up programme, Seren Dental Summer School, the Sutton Trust Dental Summer School, the North Wales Dentistry Widening Participation programme, Deintyddion yfory or the International Foundation Year are eligible for a guaranteed interview.  Applicants on the Pathway to Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy are eligible for a guaranteed interview for the BSc Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene and DipHE Dental Hygiene.

To meet commissioner requirements, Welsh domicile applicants who have completed or are pending a Level 3 or 4 Access to Higher Education course with an appropriate amount of Biology will also typically be invited to interview for the BSc Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene and DipHE Dental Hygiene.  Applicants must meet all minimum entry requirements and submit a satisfactory personal statement and reference.

Find out more about Widening Participation .

For all other applicants, points are given for achieved grades only.  GCSEs (including mandatory subjects) and A levels are eligible to be scored.  Accepted equivalent qualifications can also be scored.  Typically, seven GCSEs will be scored for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery and five for BSc Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene and DipHE Dental Hygiene.

A*/8/9 = 4 points

A/7 = 3 points

B/6 = 2 points

C/4/5 = 1 point

If you are applying with achieved A levels, points for achieved A level grades may be added to your GCSE score.  Having a fourth A Level is not a requirement and will not enhance your application.  A Dental Nurse qualification is accepted for the BSc in Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene and the DipHE in Dental Hygiene in lieu of one A-level (excluding Biology).  Other Level 3 qualifications may be considered in lieu of A levels.  Once you have achieved 28 points for Dentistry and 20 points for DipHE Dental Hygiene or BSc Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene, you will be considered alongside those with the maximum academic score available with GCSEs.

If you are applying with an Honours Degree that meets the requirements for the programme applied for and have also achieved the minimum GCSE and A level requirements, you will achieve the maximum academic score and will be considered alongside those achieving maximum academic scores with GCSEs or A levels.

For Bachelor of Dental Surgery, if the number of applicants in the relevant applicant group receiving a high academic score exceeds the number of interviews available, the UCAT score will be used as a cut-off.  Due to the variability in International qualifications, the scoring system may be utilised differently for Overseas applicants.

For BSc Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene and DipHE Dental Hygiene, if the number of applicants in the relevant applicant group receiving a high academic score exceeds the number of interviews available, other aspects of your application may be considered to determine a cut-off, including the personal statement.

What is the cut-off score?

Cut-off scores for interviews (academic and UCAT) are determined by the competitiveness (i.e. calibre) of the number and quality of the applications we receive each year.

The academic and / or UCAT cut-off score will vary year to year and may vary between the different groups of applicants to ensure there is representation from each group.

What is your UCAT cut-off score?

A UCAT cut-off score is only used if we have too many applicants sitting on excellent academic scores.  The UCAT cut-off score is not predetermined and is unrelated to the previous year’s cut-off. It cannot currently be predicted.  The cut-off score may be different for the different groups to ensure that there is representation from each group.

What subjects must I have?

Please see our Admissions Policy and our Website for details on our minimum entry requirements.

Do you look at predicted grades?

Predicted grades are not considered at any stage of the Selection Process.

Do you look at AS level grades?

AS level grades are not considered at any stage of the Selection Process.

Do you have a Graduate Entry programme?

We do not have a graduate entry programme.

Do you accept Access Courses, BTECs and T levels?

Access Courses, BTECs and T levels are not currently accepted for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery.

We accept some Access Courses, BTECs and T levels for our BSc in Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene and DipHE in Dental Hygiene.  Applicants are encouraged to email [email protected] to ensure their course contains enough Biology to be considered.

Do you accept re-sits?

We accept re-sits at GCSE level.  These must be achieved at the point of application.

We do not accept A level re-sits for the Bachelor of Dental Surgery unless you have been successful at interview and were given an honoured offer for the following year.

We accept A level re-sits for the BSc in Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene and DipHE in Dental Hygiene.

Do you accept the EPQ?

For the Bachelor in Dental Surgery, the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is not considered at any stage of the Selection Process.  However, depending on the project, applicants may find the skills developed during the project useful for discussing in their personal statement.

For the BSc in Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene, an A grade in the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) can reduce the A level requirements by 1 grade (not including Biology).

What about extenuating circumstances?

These must be sent to the Central University by the deadline specified to be considered by the Admission Group. We are not able to adjust academic grades that have been given by any awarding bodies (you should contact the relevant Exam Board).

I’m unsure what my fee status will be, can you help?

An applicant’s fee status is set by the University, in accordance with the Education (Fees and Awards) Regulations and with the University’s guiding principles of fee assessment. Find out more about Cardiff University’s fee status policy and has a Fee Assessment Questionnaire, or contact [email protected] with further enquiries.

When will I hear if I have an interview with Cardiff University?

We review all applications thoroughly once the UCAS deadline has passed. This process can take many weeks. Therefore, we cannot give an exact timeframe on when applicants will be informed whether they have been successful in receiving an invitation to interview. We will only contact applicants once all applications have been reviewed.  We try to give at least two weeks notice for interview where possible.  If we are unable to do so, we will endeavor to update applicants with an estimated date of when they will hear if they have been invited to interview.

For the Bachelor of Dental Surgery, if you have not heard from us by the end of December, please contact us on: [email protected]

For the BSc in Dental Therapy and Dental Hygiene and DipHE in Dental Hygiene, if you have not heard from us by the end of March, please contact us on: [email protected]

Will the interviews be in person or online and what will the format be?

The interviews will be in the format of Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) which involves several individual stations with themed questions.  The interviews for 2025 entry will be in person for Home fee status applicants.  We will not offer online interviews except for overseas applicants to the Bachelor of Dental Surgery programme.  Applicants should make note of the advertised dates of the interviews on our website (these can be subject to change).

We do not currently reimburse applicants for expenses incurred attending their interview.  Applicants who are unable to afford to attend their interview can contact us to discuss their circumstances, but we cannot guarantee that funds will be available from the University.

The majority of our MMI stations will be mapped to attributes expected of Dental Professionals by the General Dental Council .

Detailed information on the MMI process, including advice is sent to applicants offered an interview.

Applicants requiring reasonable adjustments or those with extenuating circumstances must email us with these requirements once invited to interview and in plenty of time to ensure any adjustments can be considered.

Can I do my interview through the medium of Welsh? How do I apply for this?

Yes. Anyone can sit their MMI through the medium of Welsh or bilingually. There will be a set number of interviews offered through the medium of Welsh/bilingually. You will need to contact us once invited to interview to secure an interview slot reserved for Welsh/bilingual interviews.

What is a bilingual or Welsh interview at Cardiff University School of Dentistry?

Bilingual and Welsh MMIs are essentially the same, in the sense they are conducted as one interview. You can switch from Welsh to English, and vice versa in these interviews. All interviewers will be happy to conduct the interview in either Welsh or English and you are welcome to switch languages at any time. You will not be granted any additional points for speaking Welsh, nor will they be taken away if you switch language at any time during the MMIs. You might wish to conduct one station in Welsh and another in English. This will not affect your score in any way.

All questions in the MMI interviews are available in Welsh so you can complete the whole interview through the medium of Welsh if you choose.

I applied to Cardiff for Dentistry last year and didn’t get a place. Can I reapply this year?

Yes, you can reapply as long as you meet our minimum entry requirements for the year you are applying.

I attended a Step Up/Sutton Trust/ Deintyddion yfory/ North Wales Dental Widening Participation/ Pathway to Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy programme, how will you know?

We receive a list of applicants who have attended within the last year.
